Korean Drama Review RW

Yay! I finally finished my final few assignments and now left a few weeks before school ends for the term.

Reunited worlds (2017) 再次相遇的世界

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Comedy, Family

Enjoyment: 10/10  Pace: 8/10  No. of times I watched it: 2

starring Lee Yun Hee as Jung Jung Won, Jung Chae Yun as Jung Jung Won (young), Yeo Jin Goo as Sung Hye Sung, Ahn Jae Hyun as Cha Min Joon

Love this drama! Nowadays, it seems like it is the crime season. So many crime dramas which is not my cup of tea haha. I always prefer comedy, romance, fantasy. And maybe action sometimes. Sigh but just have to get hold of whatever nice drama I can.

Started watching this due to Yeo Jin Goo haha. Due to the misleading summary I saw of the drama about two childhood friends suddenly having great age difference and meeting each other, I thought it wont be good and didn’t have much expectations of it. At first, my sister didn’t want to watch it due to the summary but luckily I tried it and then persuaded her to watch haha. After half way through, we ended up watching faster than it is being screened.

This drama starts out very sad with Hae Sung’s death and his relationships with his friends and family. The atmosphere at the start of the drama effectively brings out the dark, foreboding, sad feeling. Even when he returns, I still can feel the sadness lingering as I know he will never return for good. This drama is similar to those spiritual dramas that even though they get to return and possess somebody’s body, we know they will have to leave one day after settling what they have to.

Yeo Jin Goo acted well as Hae Sung (as expected haha). Despite him being younger than most of the other actors and actresses, his portrayal of being their friends and elder brother is good! He also portrayed Hae Sung’s conflicted and mixed feelings well.

The relationship between Hae Sung and Jung Won is convincing and fun, and I was touched when Hae Sung tells Jung Won that his death is not her fault and not to “run away” anymore.

Loved Hae Sung’s interaction with each of his siblings that have distinct characteristics, both heartwarming, and heartbreaking towards the end. It is sad that the separated siblings are finally reunited due to Hae Sung but he cant stay. Liked the portrayal of each of his friends too. It was funny when the people first see him return, especially those who faint or keep running away from him thinking he is a ghost such as Hae Chul and Ho Bang. It is cool that Hae Sung has special abilities such as being able to see and hear things from far away, having excellent taste and being very strong which is quite useful for him to eavesdrop, pursue his passions and punish people who bullied his siblings (haha).

It is funny how Min Joon is unlucky like Jung Won (if I didn’t remember wrongly) or more unlucky than her, getting into serious accidents when with her. I expected Min Joon to end up with Jung Won as Hae Sung comes back to put everything back to its right position, including helping Jung Won forget him and move on. Perhaps they wanted to show how Hae Sung deserves to be remembered and cannot be replaced but I think if Hae Sung manages to match-make the two and still be remembered by Jung Won and kept in the corner of her heart, his sacrifice would be more filled with selfless love in addition to the sorrow.

Orange Marmalade (2015) 橘子果酱

Genre: School, Fantasy, Romance, Melodrama, Vampire

Enjoyment: 10/10  Pace: 9/10  No. of times I watched it: 2

orange-marmalade-drama-cover

starring Yeo Jin Goo as Jung Jae Min, Song Eui Joon as Jae Min (young), Seol Hyun as Baek Ma Ri, Lee Jong Hyun as Han Shi Hoo, Gil Eun Hye as Jo Ah Ra

Despite hearing that people dropped it because the drama did a ridiculous time-travelling etc, I still want to watch this drama because of Yeo Jin Goo! My sister was put off by Ma Ri continuously trying to suck Jae Min’s blood at the start and wanted to drop it until I decided to watch it with her and she changed her mind. In this drama, the vampires are not seen as powerful but rather the outsider that humans fear and hate. Because of that, they have to hide or move away whenever discovered. This makes me feel sorry for them and it seems like humans are the mean ones instead. It is difficult living while trying to fit in with others or be like them when you are not. Human’s unconscious behaviour due to subjective judgement can really harm others-humans or not.

Enjoyed the development of relationship between the lead couple no matter it is in the past life or in the present. In both times, Jae Min actually accepts her as a vampire despite his initial hate towards vampires. I can see the link between the past and present lives very well which I think makes the time-travelling effective after all. In addition, it is fun to watch mischievous Han Shi Hoo being Jae Min’s good friend in the past life. Liked watching Ma Ri’s present life family which adds humour and sweetness. The way Ma Ri mentions Jae Min’s sweet blood keeps making me think of Jae Min as fleshy and juicy haha…

Liked Jong Hyun’s acting in this drama as a rebellious person/vampire in the past and present life. He gives off the very charismatic feel and I like how he insists on his opinion. The scene that he tries to commit suicide the vampire way is so beautifully sad. Amazed by how the vampires pretend they are drinking other drinks such as wine, strawberry milk, or even tomato sauce when they are drinking “processed” blood. They will be punished/ arrested if they use their power even if it is to save humans which I found quite unfair. The power of vampire is really cool, especially how they zoom about in high speed.

I miss you (2012) 想你

Genre: Melodrama, Mystery

Enjoyment: 8/10  Pace: 7/10  No. of times I watched it: 1

I Miss you 보고싶다 kdrama 2012cast

starring Yoon Eun Hye as Lee Soo Yeon, Kim So Hyun as Lee Soo Yeon (young) and Park Yoochun as Han Jung Woo, Yeo Jin Goo as Han Jung Woo (young).

Tragic start but good ending for the lead characters. It was too cruel for me to watch the separation of the lead couple so I just read about what happened. Hyung Joon plays a important role in the later part of the drama and is a character I feel sorry for. Hyung Joon is actually Jung Woo’s step uncle even though he is younger than Jung Woo. From young, he is forcefully separated from his mother as Jung Woo’s father prevents him from inheriting a huge fortune. He even becomes physically disabled as a result. He does no wrong yet misfortunes keeps befalling him. In the end, he loses everything even his mother and Soo Yeon.

People usually call this a second lead syndrome? The second lead leaves a deeper impression on me. He does not feel love since young so he also does not know how to feel compassionate. He has become a murderer since young age and it seems a second nature to him. Is it really because of his misfortune that he turns out this way? Will he be better if he was born in a family full of love? It is a waste that he places revenge as the priority.

Young Jung Woo and Soo Yeon make a sweet couple. Jung Woo teaches Soo Yeon a hand signal that can help her forget all her misfortunes. Learnt that bad memories should not be remembered and we should work towards creating good memories. I can feel how much joy Jung Woo brings to Soo Yeon’s life, giving her company and sharing her sorrow such as being an outcast with her: having rubbish thrown at them. While rain may not mean a good sign, rain in this drama helps Jung Woo and Soo Yeon meet and helps them reunite.
