starring Park Yoochun as Choi Moo Gak, Shin Se kyung as Choi Eun Sul / Oh Cho Rim, Nam Goong Min as Kwon Jae Hee and Yoon Jin Seo as Yum Mi.

Really liked the fantasy part of this drama, how the smell can be traced to find things or people and how the scents can help in the identification of people and what they have done.  It is funny that Moo Gak is good at doing comedy (haha) while Cho Rim can get to the bottom of crimes quickly and they are doing the job of what the other person is good at. Because of his sister’s death, Moo Gak without his sense of taste gobbles lots of food to fill up his empty heart. It is a pity that the sister has to die because of her name but it is needed in order for Moo Gak to be a police and meet Cho Rim.

It is fun watching Moo Gak regain his sense of touch. For example, he suddenly feels itchy at his nose or jerks because of his wound after a kiss. It must be tough living without the sense of taste and touch. Imagine not withdrawing my hand from the fire because I can’t feel and not being able to taste the delicious food… Liked the marriage proposal by Moo Gak when he writes words using perfume sprayed in the dark sky. It is simply romantic and unique for Cho Rim who can see scents. Wonder how the words last since the particles from the perfume would have diffused quickly haha.

The pace is really good in this drama. Everything just flows well and it is quick to know who is the murderer. The serial murderer (shall not give spoiler) is acted out very well and really gives people the fear, especially since he seems so kind. I even thought that Doctor Chun was the serial murderer but he ends up being the victim. Haha. The serial murderer even has a hidden room in his house to keep the captives. The serial killer’s face-blindness disease does help Cho Rim escape death a few times since he cannot recognise anyone unless they speak.

The police seems to be doing some work in this drama haha, especially Lieutenant Yeom and Moo Gak. It is dangerous yet brilliant that Lieutenant Yeom disguises as Cho Rim and acts as bait to find out the place the serial murderer hides the victims. It was cool when she turns around and shows herself to the murderer much to his horror and shock for catching the wrong person. Towards the end, I think the police becomes so reliant on Cho Rim’s ability that they can’t even solve crimes without the couple and even prevent them from going for honeymoon… The police, especially the chief, was so arrogant at the start when Moo Gak begged to join their team and after that he is depending so much on Moo Gak to save his own reputation.

Korean Drama Review Blade Man BM

Blade Man (2014) 钢铁人

starring Lee Dong Wook as Joo Hong Bin, Shin Se Kyung as Son Se Dong and Jung Yoo Geun as Joo Chang.

Hong Bin’s ability to run faster than a car, “fly” into the air, lift a car and sprout iron (when he is extremely angry) amuse me a lot. Managing a company that creates games really suits Hong Bin. Haha. Even when he tries to be good to his workers by treating them to a meal, he forces them to gobble down the food so he can leave early for his date. I admire how Se Dong always think about others before herself, including her selfless act of adopting people and leaving Hong Bin when Chang’s mother who is thought to be dead returns. However, the return of the Chang’s mother slows down the pace of the drama towards the end. I am moved by the scene where she hugged Hong Bin including his spikes to calm him down when he is angry at his father and cannot control his ability.

Liked Hong Bin’s relationship with his son, Chang. Although their relationship is distant at first as his son is afraid of him and Hong Bin is so fierce towards him, they managed to close the gap with the help of Se Dong. As Hong Bin learns to become a more understanding father, his son is able to like him more and express himself more to Hong Bin. Towards the end, Hong Bin looks forward to Chang’s goodbye before he goes to work and Chang even feels proud that his father is strong. It is hilarious that Chang sometimes becomes the third party that is cutting down on  the time Hong Bin and Se Dong can spend together (much to Hong Bin’s anger). It is a waste that Hong Bin’s stepbrother does not stand a chance against Hong Bin. He does things for Se Dong and dares to try to oppose his father earlier than Hong Bin and is more direct when he approaches things.

It is fun to watch the interaction between Hong Bin and his secretary. His secretary who has good martial arts skills lands nicely at the bottom of the stairs when Hong Bin vents his anger and pushes him down. He always obeys Hong Bin’s orders and is protective towards him. It touches me when he does not mind his whole body filled with wounds as long as he can prevent Hong Bin’s condition from being known. It is funny when Hong Bin is overly energised with his power and his secretary has to chase after him. For example, when he is flying among the trees, his secretary travelling on the ground has to try to catch up with him.
