Myung Wol the Spy (2011) 间谍明月

Genre: Action, Romance, Comedy

Enjoyment: 8/10  Pace: 7/10  No. of times I watched it: 1

starring Han Ye Seul as Han Myung Wol and Eric as Kang Woo. Other casts: Lee Jin Wook as Choi Ryu and Jang Hee Jin as Joo In Ah.
Plot: An elite North Korean spy, Han Myung Wol, and her partner, Choi Ryu, infiltrates South Korea on a mission to disrupt the Hallyu Wave by kidnapping one of their top stars, Kang Woo. Despite her proficiency at her job, Myung Wol’s one weakness is her uncontrollable curiosity. Hijinks ensue when she falls in love with Kang Woo instead.

I don’t really understand why North Korea wants to disrupt Hallyu Wave. Haha. The interesting thing is the North Korea Army uses radio to communicate with spies in South Korea and army messages can be coded into normal phrases to prevent South Korean from getting any information. Liked the couple Choi Ryu and In Ah too which is unexpectedly formed. Wanted Choi Ryu to have a good ending (not saying the ending is bad).

Why you should watch: The starting was intriguing and there were many funny parts when Myung Wol tried to get close to Kang Woo using various methods under older spies help and guidance such as being his bodyguard, his fiancee and even a supporting actress.

Nine times time travel (2013) 九回時間旅行

Genre: Time-travel, Romance, Mystery

Enjoyment: 8/10  Pace: 7/10  No. of times I watched it: 1

nine time time travel nine time time travel

starring Lee Jin Wook as Park Sun Woo and Jo Yoon Hee as Joo Min Young, Park Hyung Sik as Park Sun Woo (young)
Plot: Another time-travel drama. Sun Woo is a workaholic who ends up getting a brain tumor. His colleague, Min Young has a crush on him for many years but he did not accept her love until he discovered his illness and decided to live life in a new way. He was also given 9 chances to travel to the past as his brother wanted to change the past and bring happiness to their family again. His mother suffered a blow in the past and had dementia. His brother died trying to find incense sticks that can help the holder travel to the past for 30 minutes. As he travels to the past, he unravels  a mystery related to his family that happened 20 years ago. He even treats his brain tumor in the process and died twice in his time travelling yet managed to survive.

Zoom into characters: Sun Woo is a good worker but poor when it comes to love. He ignores and rejects Min Young who repeatedly confessed to him. He finally changed his mind after he was diagnosed with deadly illness. Min Young is a bright and cheerful girl who does not give up on Sun Woo. As Sun Woo continues to change the past, he realises more things and learns to treasure Min Young.

He even made his lover into his niece after one of the time-travels. Happiness can be simple yet difficult to get at times. The definition of happiness can change as time goes. As long as we have what we treasure, happiness can be felt. To me, time-travelling may make one realise things they did not know. At the same time, most things cannot be changed and things are always back to square one. One should not always stay in the past. The past cannot be changed. One should live the present well and plan for the future instead. Liked the portrayal of young Sun Woo and his best friend, the doctor to be/doctor.
