I hate you Juliet (2019) Korean Web Drama

I hate you Juliet (2019)

Cast: Lee Hong Ki as Cha Yool, Jung Hye Sung as Goo Na Ra, Choi Woong as Bong Joon Mo, Moon Soo Bin as Lee Soo Ji, Kim Bo Mi as Lee Young Joo

Episodes: 18

Recommendation: 7/10

My own review:

Ignored this drama at first due to its posters haha but later on I happened to read the plot of the drama and it includes fantasy (Yool can hear Na Ra’s thoughts) so I decided to try it. Luckily I tried it haha.

Liked how the drama is set in the school setting which makes Yool more equal with the other students since he is already a celebrity. Laughed a lot in this drama, mostly due to Yool. For example, when he tries all ways to figure out the rule in order for him to hear Na Ra’s thoughts such as by spraying water at her, patting everyone’s heads etc. and Na Ra thinks it is because he received a strange role and he is practising acting. It is funny how Yool has such a poor sense of direction and gets lost easily. It was fun watching him when he is lost or his face when he awkwardly waits for people to direct him. It is funny how Na Ra is such a poor driver and also how she has a crush on Joon Mo and recites his personal details when people mention him or to confirm his identity. Liked how Yool comes off as straightforward but without any sense of arrogance. Yool’s past adds more depth to the character, though I felt that there could have been a better resolution to that eg., the mother apologising. Enjoyed watching the interactions between Yool and Na Ra, and also among the group of students. Felt that the transition of relationship between Yool and Na Ra from friends to lovers was too abrupt and wasnt done properly.

The interaction between Soo Ji and her father is interesting. The story between Yool’s mother and Na Ra’s mother is funny. I am not sure how the drama fits its name since I dont see any hatred at all or how the plot relates to the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Had looked out for Lee Hong Ki’s drama since Bride of the Century and was happy that this drama was good enough. Want to see Lee Hong Ki act more cold guy/bad boy roles haha.

Go, Back Diary (2018) Korean Web Drama

Go, Back Diary (2018)

Cast: Kim Ye Ji as Lee Hyun Bi, Lee Jong Won as Do Jae Hyun

Episodes: 4

Recommendation: 6.5/10

My own review:

I feel that the scenarios in this drama are quite common. Examples are love at first sight, Lee Hyun Bi not liking her boyfriend’s childhood friend e.t.c.

Although it is typical, I gave a 6.5 mark as I liked the ending of the show, which leaves a strong impact on the audience. I will not tell you why is it an impact as it will be too much of a spoiler and you may give up on watching the drama before even starting. But I will tell you what is the ending part of the drama, which was how they promised each other that they will be together forever when they were teenagers.

My Only Love Song (2017) Korean Web Drama

My Only Love Song(2017)

Episodes: 20

Cast: Lee Jong Hyun as On Dal, Gong Seung Yun as Sang Soo Jung, Lee Jae Jin as Byun Sam Yong, Kim Yeon Seo as Princess Pyunggang, Ahn Bo Hyun as Moo Myung

Recommendation: 8/10

My Own Review:

I watched this drama too long ago and went to re-watch the first few episodes but I cannot really seem to find the actual feeling I had previously. So I will just write what I remembered I felt in this drama and my current feeling of this drama.

When I first watched this drama, I remembered I laughed a lot as Sang Soo Jung was quite funny. Examples of scenes that are funny are when she scolded the cast, when she did a flying kick on the actress who was going to marry her boyfriend and when she thought that the historical period that she was in was an acting scene e.t.c. Although she is quite noisy, I do not feel that she was irritating as I feel that this is how the character is supposed to be. Gong Seung Yun did well in portraying Sang Soo Jung’s character.

One thing I liked about the drama is the historical drama car, boong boong. In the historical time period, the car only operates when On Dal is in the car. The car helped Sang Soo Jung and other people in the car to escape from danger and make On Dal and Princess Pyunggang meet. I feel that this car is quite meaningful and helpful at times and that is why I wrote about it.

Another thing I liked about the drama is Princess Pyunggang’s and Moo Myung’s communication method. Moo Myung does not talk at all in real life but he talks a lot in his brain. Only Princess Pyunggang knows what he is talking about. I wonder is this telepathy or something but I really liked how they could communicate in such a special way.

A-teen (2018) Korean Web Drama

A-teen (2018)

Cast: Shin Ye Eun as Do Hana, Lee Na Eun as Kim Hana, Kim Soo Hyun as Yeo Bo Ram, Kim Dong Hee as Ha Min, Shin Seung Ho as Nam Shi Woo and Ryu Eui Hyun as Cha Gi Hyun

Recommendation: 4/10

Episodes: 24

My Own Review:

I feel that this drama is kind of typical as it just talking about a teenager’s life and what they can experience. Examples of some typical plots are a teenager having a crush on a friend, a teenager feeling left out as they were in a trio group, a teenager hiding the truth that she is from a poor family by saying that she is rich, a teenager who likes his tutor e.t.c.

Among all the typical story lines, I quite relate to the one which the teenager felt left out as they were in a trio group. This is because I am usually in that situation when I was in Secondary School. But at least the friends of this teenager does not really leave her out. It is just they do not really know her well.

The typical story line I liked best was the one that Cha Gi Hyun and Yeo Boram become a couple. Cha Gi Hyun liked Yeo Boram for a long time and did not confess her feelings as Yeo Boram was dating another guy at first. Yeo Boram’s boyfriend break up with her and another guy in the school started to pursue the love of Yeo Boram. This is when Cha Gi Hyun started to get jealous which made Yeo Boram know that he likes her.

I was going to give a 6/10 at first but the more I watch, the more I feel that it is typical. I feel that the drama will be better if they could put more funny elements as being a teenager should be more joyful.

Watch “A-teen” for the typical life of a teenager.

Review:

Hong Shi Ah is a webtoon artist. After writing many webtoons, she came to have lack of inspiration for her drawing and her company is not happy with her work.  While she was chasing a group of students to reprimand them for bumping into her and causing her coffee to spill, she managed to find inspirations for her webtoon. The inspiration for her webtoon is a male archery club. She decided to become their archery club manager so that she can draw them and get ideas for her webtoon. But the archery club does not know her motive for being their archery club manager. Will they find out about her motive and how will they react after knowing it? To find out more on what happened in the drama, watch “Matching! Boys Archery Club”.

My Own Review: Not writing my own review as I feel that this drama has a very normal storyline and there is nothing special for me to say.

Random thoughts 8 and some recommendations

As my sister is busy, I have helped to complete the reviews for Three Colour Fantasy mini drama series since I happened to watch Romance full of life with her and glimpsed through The Universe’s Star when she was rewatching it. She has already written Queen of the Ring review.

The short reviews can be found at Korean Web Drama or Super Short Drama Series.

The Universe’s Star

Romance full of life

Maybe my sister will do her review for these dramas when she is free haha? Especially liked the fantasy in the 2 dramas. The way Byul in The Universe’s Star reacts and responds when she gets to know seconds (?) before Woo Joo is about to die each time left a deep impression on me. I liked the ending of the drama. Although the ending is sad, it nicely illustrates how time is precious, and no matter how much amount of time we are left with, we should cherish every moment and make every moment fulfilling and meaningful. Happy to see Yoon Shi Yoon in Romance full of life! He looks good in both hairstyles haha… Touched by the simple and heartwarming story in Romance full of life as we see how In Sung struggles with his desire to escape from being a failure and attempts to excel in life, and the drama ends nicely with So Ra’s “confession”. Trying not to give too much spoiler haha.

I feel that kdramas nowadays, besides moving away from fantasy, is going towards the bitter struggles and hardships trend haha. There seems to be higher intensity of pain and bitterness when struggles and hardships are portrayed. For example, Hospital Ship, Doubtful Victory, Come and Hug Me, Just between Lovers, The Great Seducer (I think). Even supposedly more light-hearted dramas like Are you human too and What’s wrong with Secretary Kim have such feelings lingering too.

Currently, I have put aside About Time (not enough plot development) and Ms Hammurabi (too crime-related) after some episodes. I am still watching Are you human too, What’s wrong with Secretary Kim with my sister. I have browsed through about 3/4 of Come and Hug me. I am browsing through Come and Hug me as it does not have enough plot content for me but the perspective it takes is interesting. I have tried Singapore Drama Gifted and dropped it haha. Was looking forward to it due to the trailer which portrayed complexity of and struggle in certain characters, and Elvin Ng acting in it but it is not as good as I expected.

I have scanned through the whole of China Drama Sweet Dreams and found it good enough to chase haha. Waiting to see if my sister wants to watch it with me… I am also starting on China Drama Ashes of Love. First time I am trying out a China Period/Historical Drama. I dont really like the plot of China Period/Historical Dramas as it is usually a combination of reincarnation and tragic love+sacrifice but I am trying this out due to becoming a fan of Deng Lun after seeing him in Sweet Dreams. Hope I can take the tragic parts later on…

Korean Web Drama Last Minute Romance

Last Minute Romance (2017)

Cast: Han Seung Yeon as Baek Se, Lee Seo Won as Yoon Dong Joon / Ji Sul Woo(top star)

Episodes: 10

Recommendation: 8.5/10

My Review: This is the first time I have a dilemma on the recommendation points. I did not know whether I should give 8 points or 9 points so I decided to put 8.5 points. It is actually quite a normal plot. It was obvious that they will fall in love, it was obvious that the top star was definitely the complete opposite of Dong Joon and it was obvious and saddening that Baek Se will die regardless. However, I felt that the drama was good as it gave me different types of feeling. For example, I was sad because I knew Baek Se was going to die. It brought me laughter too because Dong Joon acting as the top star and Baek Se acting as the other lead was so cringy and funny. It feels sad that they could not end up together but it was quite a sweet love story to me.
