Random thoughts 9: Dramas dropped+current schedule

Feeling a little bored haha so just going to write what I have been doing or will be doing.

My sister and I have been dropping many Korean Dramas these days, probably more than in the past? I plan to finish the reviews for Sweet Dreams and Ashes of Love by December(hopefully since I am a procrastinator). Sad that lack of dramas to chase.

Although there was quite some hype for My ID is Gangnam Beauty, we dropped it after the first episode haha. The male lead is quite good-looking but I guess that’s not enough to make us continue. After the mystery is uncovered in What’s wrong with Secretary Kim, the tension and suspense that captivated me to watch is gone and I felt like dropping it. The mystery seems to be holding up the drama and once it is gone, the attractive part of the drama seems to collapse with it. And we did drop it towards the end. Hopefully I can pick it up again.

More recent dramas such as Where stars land, Still 17, 100 days my prince, Devilish Joy, dont give me the motivation to chase or at least watch till the end.

My sister and I dropped Where stars land and Still 17 about 1/4 to half way. My sister dropped Where Stars Land after the confession scene while I managed to scan through most of it. The starting was very good and the pace and characters were great for both dramas but somehow after around 1/4 of it, the pace drops a lot and the characters lose their distinctive characteristics which attracted me. It is quite a waste. I will try to persist and finish these 2 if I can. Where stars land seems to be better than Still 17 as Lee Soo Yeon’s emotional struggle of wanting to lead a normal life consistently shines through in the drama. However, both lack interesting plot development and plot twists after 1/4 of it.

100 days my prince and Devilish Joy are dramas related to memory loss. I love dramas related to memory loss but the plot developments in these 2 dramas are not enough to attract me to watch it episode by episode. For Devilish Joy, I feel that it would have been better if the impact of memory loss felt each time Ma Sung loses his memory is greater and if there are more fun/comedy scenes related to the memory loss. Not sure if I am right since I didnt watch quite a lot of episodes. 100 days my prince’s plot does not seem interesting enough even though there are some attractive features such as the prince becoming a commoner but not acting like one after losing his memory and him marrying, living and interacting with a commoner that was actually once a noble lady.

Maybe I am just being fussy? Am I supposed to be contented and just watch those I can get my hands on since it is difficult to consistently include creative and completely new things in dramas? My sister and my preference for fantasy dramas is probably hard to meet? The trend has moved from fantasy to crime to probably hardship and suffering and it seems to be moving towards sci-fiction now.

Due to lack of fantasy dramas, I went back and watch Back to 1989 Taiwanese Drama and You who came from the stars kdrama haha… My sister and I tried When time stopped but the tone is quite grim. Not sure if we will continue. My sister suddenly felt like watching a law drama after a role play at school haha so we watched Lawless Lawyer. We finished about 3/4 of it then my sister found it getting boring so we put it aside for now. The only things that may keep me going in Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter are to find out who is Mama Fairy’s real husband and to watch the cat/tiger that can transform to human. For the newer dramas, I am considering Memories of the Alhambra and Clean With Passion For Now. My sister and I have watched the first episode for both. Memories of the Alhambra seems to be a sci-fiction drama about augmented reality. I suddenly have this weird+crazy thought that Chan Yeol’s character is killed by the game character he created after I read some comments about the drama. I laughed my way through most of the first episode of Clean With Passion For Now. Considering watching it but it doesnt have fantasy elements though, not sure if the pace will drop later.

On a side note, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the instagram account. At first, I usually post around 7-8 posts per drama but after I learnt how to cut videos, I have double the number of posts to put. Usually I can finish posting about a drama shortly after a drama is completed but now it seems to be dragged since I have to arrange so many posts and have to arrange such that it is not always the same drama appearing. In the past, I only post 2 posts in around 6 days but now I seem to need to post 8 posts for 4 days and still cannot finish posting. :\ Feel that I am spending too much time on the instagram account and I wont be able to maintain the frequency of posting once school starts. Hope I can settle this before this month ends.

Thank you for your support for the blog!

Confession scene in Where Stars Land

One of the most refreshing and cool confession scenes I have seen haha. Enjoy! Had trouble putting part of it in instagram so putting it here instead.

Korean Drama Review I am not a robot IANAR

So busy with school work and other commitments recently that I dont have time to blog haha. Since there is a serious lack of dramas that attract me to watch nowadays, shall take some time to write a review. After kdramas move away from fantasy, I occasionally move to China (modern) drama and taiwanese drama but of course they are not enough. Sadly, sg dramas nowadays dont capture my attention too, dont have any that I watch the trailer and straightaway feel “I want to watch this”, maybe “Give me a million dollar” that is coming up next haha?

Once I saw that this drama is going to include Yoo Seung Ho and human allergy on dramabeans, I felt like watching it already and was waiting for it to be screened. It took “so long” for it to be confirmed and to be screened. Finished this drama some time ago and doing this by memory.

I am not a robot (2017-2018) 不是機器人啊

Genre: Science fiction, Romance, Comedy

Enjoyment: 10/10  Pace: 9/10, 8.5/10 towards the end  No. of times I watched it: 2

starring Yoo Seung Ho as Kim Min Kyu, Chae Soo Bin as Jo Ji Ah / Aji 3, Uhm Ki Joon as Hong Baek Kyun, Park Se Wan as Pie, Song Jae Ryong as Hok Tal, Kim Min Kyu as Ssan Ip, Kang Ki Young as Hwang Yoo Chul, Hwang Seung Eon as Ye Ri ElSeo Dong Won as Jo Jin Bae

Enjoyed the chemistry, sweet interaction and the development of relationship between Min Kyu and Ji Ah when Ji Ah acts as the robot. It is funny how Min Kyu likes it when Aji 3 is in “friend mode”, scolding him and saying swear words haha. There are many hilarious scenes at the start like when they first met and Ji Ah acting as the robot was shocked to see him. It was fun to watch how Ji Ah responds to Min Kyu’s “difficult” assessment when there was a power cut and she could not connect with the real robot. It is surprising how Min Kyu doesnt realise that she is a human but I guess it could be due to his lack of interaction with humans. I could feel the warmth when Ji Ah pats him on the back when he was choked. Although the scene that the girl falls backwards and the guy supports her is quite cliche, it is well-used in this drama to portray Ji Ah’s feelings for Min Kyu. Liked how they give each other smiles, reassurance and support. Loved Ji Ah’s inventions (I wrote about in the instagram posts) which fit in nicely with the plot to make the scenes more romantic and beautiful.

My sister felt very sad when Min Kyu resets Aji 3, probably due to the other person not remembering anything after that and Min Kyu is the only one that remembers everything, happy or sad. I didnt feel totally sad as I know that the memory will still be present in Ji Ah, the person.

Became a fan of Yoo Seung Ho since I saw him acting in Arang and the Magistrate, not sure if I wrote it somewhere before. Is it unexpected haha? It was not the lead role but the role he played as the Jade Emperor in heaven was quite significant and I liked his acting. Felt that Yoo Seung Ho is really good at acting in melodrama since I saw him acting in melodramas I miss you and Remember-War of the sons. Somehow, even his romantic comedies have a touch of melodrama such as Operational Proposal and this drama. I dont think I feel sad or see characters feel so sad in other romantic comedies. (Just for your information, melodrama is characterized by a plot that appeals to the heightened emotions of the audience. Didnt know what it means in the past when I saw it appearing in some genres of dramas and thought it meant sad plots haha.)

Liked how Yoo Seung Ho displayed the character’s mixed emotions or conflicting emotions, for example when Min Kyu feels angry and pleased when Aji 3 patted his back when he was choked; feeling happy with Aji 3’s response and unhappy when thinking that Aji 3’s response is just robot programming; desperately wanting to train Aji 3 to be what it was before the resetting. Didnt know that a handshake can be so painful. When Min Kyu shakes hands with Ri El, his childhood crush, he knows he will suffer a serious allergic reaction but still forces himself to go through with it to show that he is normal. Chae Soo Bin acted well to portray Ji Ah’s conflicting feelings and her despair as she desires so much to say that she is not a robot and reciprocate her love and feelings for him but she cannot do so. She portrayed her character’s struggle to be an innovator+entrepreneur well and carved different qualities into Ji Ah, righteous, determined, creative, impulsive, optimistic.

It was interesting to see how Min Kyu treats his robots as his friends and helps them celebrate their birthdays haha. His house is really big. It’s good to be rich haha. My sister feels that if she is rich even if she is alone, it’s also ok as she can play all the facilities in the big house. Maybe I think so too? Since I am also an introvert like her who doesnt like to interact with people too much and rather have my own alone time.

The characters Hok Tal and Ssan Ip added humour to the drama such as when they wanted to have a swim in Min Kyu’s swimming pool and have a shock of their lives when they see him at the bottom of the pool staring at them haha. While they act like children, they are loyal people to whoever they follow and best buddies for each other. Liked the interaction between people of the Santa Maria team, Baek Kyun, Pie, Hok Tal and Ssan Ip. They are optimistic even in bad times and work together towards a common goal. Enjoyed how they gradually become closer to Min Kyu, not getting along well with Min Kyu at the start but slowly being allowed to enter his world and be his friends. The professor, Baek Kyun, is not suitable for Ji Ah since he is unable to see her strengths and help her fulfill her potential no matter how smart he is. He is better suited to Pie who has good rapport with him and understands the technical terms he uses.

Liked the interaction between Min Kyu and his loyal subordinate, Jin Bae. Because Jin Bae works for Min Kyu, he is ostracised by other people working in the company as Min Kyu is known for being a crazy person and firing any employee that he sees after he announces his arrival at the company, and they dont want to be seen taking Min Kyu’s side to be safe. It was funny when Jin Bae has to hide his face with a file when there is one time when Min Kyu almost loses his position at the company (if i didnt remember wrongly). It was fun to watch when Min Kyu almost cures his allergy and happily goes to the company to work, and those who sees him run away quickly in shock or they are in shock for being caught for bad-mouthing him. Nice to watch Min Kyu finally working at the company, walking freely, and eating lunch+being able to be at a close distance with Jin Bae. Liked how Jin Bae is such a loyal person to Min Kyu but i didnt like how he treats his sister poorly at the start of the drama with his pragmatic mindset, thinking she only has unrealistic dreams. It feels awkward when they realise Ji Ah’s brother is Jin Bae and Jin Bae seems a lot older than Min Kyu but taking orders from him haha.

It was a bit of a drag towards the end as it focuses more on company politics and there is the fall out between Ji Ah and Min Kyu after he realises that human Ji Ah was the robot and felt cheated.

Why you should watch: Enjoyed the acting by the cast (especially Yoo Seung Ho haha), the interesting plot, humour, and the pace of the drama (for 3/4 of it). The drama started out very well and I was chasing after it for 3/4 of it. Liked the perspective that the drama takes. May look out for Chae Soo Bin’s future dramas.

Random Long Series Korean Drama Reviews My daughter Geum Sa Wol&Still Loving You

Woah. Finally have a bit of time for blogging…, used much of my free time watching dramas and shows. And I am just procrastinating something now so making use of some procrastinating time to write hahaha.

I was glancing through long series drama My Daughter Geum Sa Wol as my mother was watching it on Channel U. This drama uses architecture as the theme. Typical of long series dramas, there is a hidden daughter and the mother treats her own daughter badly without knowing. And then there is the so-called lead couple that should not get together since the father of the guy ruined the family of the mother of the girl. Sa Wol, Oh Wol and Hye Sung were good friends at the orphanage until Hye Sung becomes blinded by greed and fear.

The more irritating villain that kind of angers me is actually not the evil man that caused lots of deaths but the insecure girl that causes misunderstandings, and tells lies wherever she goes just to get what she wants. If only she could be satisfied with what she has, her misery and others’ misery will be greatly reduced. But then the plot would not have been able to run and many truths may be left undiscovered… She must have had a hard time living in fear of being abandoned or exposed but that is just an excuse for her actions. Felt that Se Hoon is too good for the insecure evil Hye Sung haha. She is too lucky as an evil second lead, considering all the things she receives despite all the bad deeds she does.  (By the way, I didn’t put any pic of her haha)

Sa Wol-Chan Bin couple

Liked the characters in the drama such as Sa Wol, Chan Bin, Se Hoon, Oh Wol, Oh Wol’s father, Oh Wol’s children that are portrayed well.

Oh Wol’s father and his son, Se Hoon

I felt tears in my eyes when I was watching Oh Wol’s father shouting her daughter’s name at the site of the collapsed building meant for the orphanage children. As he was poor, he left his daughter at the orphanage and intends to pick her up once he earns enough money to be able to support both his children at the same time. Little does he know that the “good” building he wants her to stay in for 1 day actually collapses before he could fetch her home.

Child-like Oh Wol comforting Sa Wol

I especially liked how Song Ha-yoon expressed Oh Wol, especially when she becomes child-like after an accident indirectly caused by Hye Sung.

I feel sad for Hye Sung’s kind adoptive mother who is being kept in the dark about important things. She does not know that the child her husband so persistently wants to adopt is “his own” child.

I was surprised when I see Yoo Jae Suk In this drama haha…hahaha. Although the revenge plot in this drama is interesting, it isn’t a drama I would want to chase. I think I only watched about 1/2 here and there of the whole drama+last few episodes to save the agony.

I also happen to browse through Still Loving You which is quite cute&sweet haha. Was randomly browsing through YouTube and suddenly pressed into an episode…

The starting of the drama is hilarious when Soo Ho first started to learn cooking so that he can work for his rich father’s food company. Love the lead couple and their chemistry! The plot is kind of cliché but I like how the lead couple’s love thrives throughout the drama. They actually married quite early in a long drama and their married life is just too perfect haha. Like how Soo Ho stands up for Eun Soo and trusts her all the time. I was expecting some conflicts but looks like there isn’t much after they got together or is it I was not patient enough to watch till there? After some time, the drama plot becomes quite dull so I didn’t manage to watch the whole thing episode by episode.

Liked how the characters grow and mature, especially the Soo-Hyun-Bitna couple haha.

Another interesting major conflict in this drama is how Soo Ho’s sister, a doctor, wants to marry a single father who is raising a pair of twins.

That’s all. Time to go back to my dull “long series drama” life…
