starring Lee Min Ho as Kim Tan, Park Shin Hye as Cha Eun Sang, Kim Woo Bin as Choi Young Do, Krystal Jung as Lee Bo Na, Kim Ji Won as Rachel Yoo, Kang Min Hyuk as Yoon Chan Young, Kang Ha Neul as Lee Hyo Shin, Park Hyung Shik as Jo Myung Soo

Finally finished watching this… I am not sure why but this drama just does not seem to catch my attention. Liked the development of the  relationship between Tan and Eun Sung, especially at the start. As it goes, it is interesting to watch the Hyo Shin+Rachel couple and Bo Na+Chan Young couple. There are many funny moments like Bo Na confessed (to Chan Young) without knowing the broadcast light is switched on and let the whole school including Chan Young hear it. It is funny when Tan uses Eun Sung’s SNS account to praise himself. It is fun to watch when Eun Sung’s mother uses being mute as an advantage when working for Tan’s mother. She can cancel the words she has written if it is inappropriate to prevent Tan’s mother from seeing it. This prevents her from getting fired because of any rudeness. Unlike Tan’s brother who only thinks of the company, Tan only aims to protect his loved ones. I wonder if it is a good choice for Tan to give up the company, especially since he is not that good at studying (maybe he did not try hard enough).

If it is me, I do not think I can survive the many part-time jobs Eun Sung does. Looks like the more things one has the more burden one feels. The heirs of different big corporations do not have such a good life afterall. For example, Hyo Shin does not have the freedom of choosing to study film instead of law. He thinks that his life is suffocating and survives by eating sleeping pills and seeking psychological help. The outline drawing of a dead person seen in a crime scene on their school ground truly reflects the grave situation the heirs may face.

Korean Drama Review HS

Heartstrings (2011) 為我著迷

Genre: Romance, Comedy, High School

Enjoyment: 8/10  Pace: 8/10  No. of times I watched it: 1

starring Jung Yong Hwa as Lee Shin and Park Shin Hye as Lee Kyu Won. Other casts: Kim Yoon-Hye as Han Hee Joo and Kang Min Hyuk as Yeo Joon Hee.
Plot: Lee Shin is a vocalist and guitarist of the band “The Stupid.” Shin is known for his good looks and strong passion for music, but in reality he is cold, lacks interest in anything unrelated to music and has neither dreams nor plans for the future. Lee Kyu Won is a bright and outgoing student who was born into a prestigious family and is majoring in traditional Korean instruments, especially the gayageum. Due to the contrast in music chosen as major, constant arguments occur and they decided to fight it out. Lee Kyu Won lost the competition as her string broke so he had to be Shin’s slave from then on which built on their relationship.

The ghost scene was funny. Their relationship started unknowingly and ended up as they retraced their past footsteps and found each other halfway. An ending that tells a lot (sry for the spoiler). Another couple that I like in this drama is the drummer, Jun Hee, and a hardworking dancer. I wonder how the dancer, Hee-joo, survives without eating much food and doing vigorous dancing. The couple is so sweet as the drummer gets her to eat and lets her enjoy. He even helped her pass the audition when she missed it. Although Hee-Joo is hardworking, she is deemed as not having enough talent as her singing is unable to move the peoples’ hearts. Is hardworking really not enough? I suppose talent and results matter more than hard work and efforts? I am touched when Kyu Won gives up the opportunity to be lead actress in the musical and let Hee-joo do lip singing.

Music can be bring joy, can it bring harm as well? When one is into music as a career and do not succeed, should he  continue or find another job to support the family?

Why you should watch: The sound tracks of this drama is quite good and the content of the drama is good with little “dragging”! This one is also about music but is different from Dream High as this is more about a musical the students plan with teamwork.
