Korean Drama Review SWP

Long time no blog haha! Hope everyone has been well! Glad to be writing after a while. Has been quite busy and also due to not completely finishing one drama. My passion for dramas seems to be reignited in me again. Good to have this feel! Sometimes, when I am feeling troubled in my life or when I use dramas as a way to escape from reality, the thirst for dramas just isn’t that much and it doesn’t really make me feel fulfilled when watching.

She was pretty (2015)  她真漂亮

Genre: Romance, Comedy

Enjoyment: 10/10  Pace: 9/10  No. of times I watched it: 2

she was pretty

starring Hwang Jung Eum as Kim Hye Jin, Jung Da Bin as Hye Jin (young), Park Seo Joon as Ji Sung Joon, Yang Han Yeol as Sung Joon (young), Go Joon Hee as Min Ha Ri, Choi Shi Won as Kim Shin Hyuk

It is funny how Sung Joon is such a workaholic. He bangs into walls and even drinks from a vase instead of a cup due to his constant attention on his I pad. There is an unexpected post-trauma phobia Sung Joon has which I think is effectively used haha. Liked the scene where Hye Jin puts her jacket over their heads as she tried to calm him down in the rain. It linked very well to them when they were young. Enjoyed how Sung Joon grows to depend on others and how Hye Jin grows to be more confident about herself. Liked the chemistry between the couple. Fashion is definitely not what I am good at so I can relate to how Hye Jin can’t recognise the different brands and types of clothes when she is working for a fashion magazine company haha.

Besides the lead characters, I feel that Choi Si Won acted very well. His character is totally different from my normal impression of him haha. His character added lots of comedy to this drama and touching moments at the end of it. Liked Shin Hyuk’s happy-go-lucky personality and how he makes fun of people and jokes with them, especially when with Hye Jin. When I think about him mischievously waiting to see the other person’s reaction after he throws a toy spider at the person, it often makes me feel like laughing.

This drama also revolves around friendship, Ha Ri and Hye Jin+ Hye Jin and Sung Joon. Friends are indeed a huge influence in our lives. I liked how it is portrayed that even having one friend makes all the difference in life. You don’t have to have many people as friends. You just need that one true friend who will not leave you even if you are an outcast or looked down by others! The friendships are well developed within this drama. In addition, I am satisfied with the ending as it gives a very complete end.

Kill me heal me (2015)  杀了我,治愈我

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Medical, Mystery

Enjoyment: 10/10  Pace: 9/10  No. of times I watched it: 2

Kill-Me-Heal-Me

starring Ji Sung as Cha Do Hyun / Shin Se Gi / Ferry Park / Ahn Yo Sub / Ahn Yo Na / Nana / Mysterious X, Hwang Jung Eum as Oh Ri Jin and Park Seo Joon as Oh Ri On.

Just a brief overview: Cha Do Hyun (the real person) is very rich and smart but lonely because of his medical condition. Shin Se Gi is a good fighter and the most dominating among all his other personalities. Most of the pain from Do Hyun’s childhood past falls on him so he is the strongest physically and mentally. 17 year old artistic and overly intelligent Ahn Yo Sub is the suicidal personality which will find all means to commit suicide. Ahn Yo Na is Yo Sub’s twin sister. She appears whenever Do Hyun is under great distress as she does not bear grudge. The only problem is that she will go around chasing idols like a crazy fan. Perry Park’s dream is to own a ship with his name on it. He enjoys making bombs and has a happy-go-lucky personality. Nana and X are personalities that are related to Ri Jin.

I personally like the Cha Do Hyun personality the most as he is more courteous and responsible unlike the others and I don’t want to root for a personality that will disappear. I will not deny that all the other personalities have their uniqueness and attractive points. Haha. It is interesting that the personalities relate to Do Hyun. For example, both Perry Park and Shin Se Gi are heavy drinkers just like Cha Do Hyun. Both Shin Se Gi and Cha Do Hyun uses the “watch” method at Ri Jin (you will know after you watch) to show the time that something significant starts. It is funny when Ri Jin first meets Se Gi and when Do Hyun thinks that she is a patient instead of a doctor.

It is hilarious when Yo Na is attracted to Ri On and starts chasing him with lots of love. It is very touching when Ri Jin tries very hard to deal with the different personalities with different methods, even calling out to Do Hyun to “resurface”. It is depressing that Do Hyun’s father unknowingly and indirectly forces the son he loves to split mentally just because of his own anger and incapability. Perry Park resembling his father is thus created as Do Hyun yearns for his loving father. I feel sorry for Ri On who does not stand a chance as he is Ri Jin’s brother and only feels miserable and conflicting feelings when seeing Ri Jin with Do Hyun.

Started watching this because of the interesting plot: 7 personality disorder. I am very fascinated by Ji Sung who acts all the different personalities very well, especially episode 9 where 3-4 of his personalities come out one by one. Watching this faster than it can be produced at first but slowed down because of my sister stopping me from watching it on television as she somehow dislikes the lead actress… Glad that I managed to continue. Surprisingly, this is the first drama with Ji Sung that I managed to finish completely.

Incarnation of money (2013) 钱的化身

Genre: Melodrama, Romance, Comedy, Mystery

Enjoyment: 9/10  Pace: 8/10  No. of times I watched it: 1

starring Kang Ji Hwan as Lee Cha Don and Hwang Jung Eum as Bok Jae In.

A revenge story focusing on money. I feel happy that he did not execute his revenge using violence or murder and the group of evil people are punished. His love for money does help him after all. Funny scenes include Cha Don literally acting crazy to sneak into the mental hospital to find his mother and his friend funny acting when he goes to the place as a weird cleaner to help Cha Don up.

I learn a lot about the importance of money after seeing this drama. Money can change other peoples’ life so does power. If one does not use it well, one will inflict harm on others. The rich man said something in the drama that leaves a deep impression. Rich people do not have to work as hard, they just have to know how to make money grow by itself and know how to make use of hardworking people who studied hard to obtain a good degree. Is it true? This makes me feel that obtaining a degree is not as important. However, in this competitive society, can one survive without good qualification? Besides that, one must not be too greedy and learn to forgive and forget.
