China Drama Review Whirlwind Girl 旋风少女

My sister and I happened to rewatch some parts of this drama due to a lack of dramas to watch nowadays so I decided to quickly write this review before it gets postponed to dont know when.
(Sigh, such a serious lack of dramas to watch since the change in trend of genre of kdramas. Felt that the scriptwriting for kdramas in general has deteriorated, even though many people seem to still enjoy them. China modern dramas are still not good enough to replace kdramas at the moment. Used to enjoy sg dramas in the past but based on the trailers nowadays, I feel that the target audience has narrowed. I guess there is nothing I can do but be more understanding towards my drama friend…)

Dropped Abyss, The Secret Life of My Secretary, Search: WWW at the first few episodes. Currently finishing up Angel’s Last Mission: Love and finished watching Perfume. Hopefully I can finish Angel’s Last Mission: Love as my sister dropped it at the 3rd last episode. Just finished watching Super Star Academy which my sister recommended me. It is quite a good watch. Currently watching Debut china drama which my sister recommended me. More or less finished scanning through About is Love, The Night of the Comet, From Survivor to Healer (Didnt watch middle part), and My Poseidon which do not have plots that are good enough but I have my own reasons for scanning through them. Started on Hotel Del Luna which is good.

Doing this by memory.

Whirlwind Girl (2015) 旋风少女

Enjoyment: 9/10  Pace: 9/10  No. of times I watched it: 3

starring Hu Bingqing as Qi Baicao, Yang Yang as Ruo Bai, Chen Xiang as Fang Tinghao, Bai Jingting as Yu Chuyuan, Zhao Yuannuan as Fang Tingyi, Yang Tailang as Shen Bo, Leo Wu as Hu Yifeng, Tan Songyun as Fan Xiaoying, Li Ze as Wu Xiuda, Yu Haoyang as Wu Xiuqin, Yu Tinger as Qu Guangya, Jiang Yiyi as Kim Min-joo, Zhang Xueying as Li En-xiu, Jang Tae-hoon as Min Shenghao

Happened to come across this drama due to becoming a fan of Yang Yang after watching him in Love O2O. This drama is a lot better than Love O2O to me and Yang Yang’s character is totally different here. Wanted to dismiss this drama when I started it as I feel that the personal monologue in the first episode is weird. Luckily, I didnt. Once I got past that, I couldnt stop watching.

The thing that stands out in this drama is Ruo Bai’s selfless love. He doesnt need Bai Cao to reciprocate his love at all and doesnt even want Bai Cao to know how much he does/has done for her. Liked how Ruo Bai likes to write calligraphy. And it is interesting how it is used to show his frustration and anger once and also shows how much he sacrifices for Bai Cao in the scene that he had to use newspapers instead of his usual calligraphy paper to help pay for her training expenses at the academy. Touched by Ruo Bai’s love for Bai Cao, especially towards the end when he chooses to help Bai Cao (because it is the critical time in her Taekwondo journey) instead of caring about his own health or when he risks his life to plead with the culprit to tell the truth that Bai Cao’s master/Taekwondo teacher did not use drug for his competition. I dont think such a person exists in the world and it is also not that good in a relationship as one person is giving too much and the other is not giving enough but I liked the character a lot and it shows unconditional love very well. My sister is so angry at him and wants to scold him for his foolishness at the 2nd time she watched it with me haha.

Chased this drama due to the Taekwondo competitions. Ruo Bai is a very good coach and he manages to guide Bai Cao not only in her trainings, but also in competitions to help her improve and develop and make good use of her strengths so that she can win in competitions. Enjoyed watching how there are many different types of interesting opponents whom Bai Cao needs to find out their weaknesses and beat. Enjoyed watching the cool stunts performed by Bai Cao during competitions.

Liked the character Bai Cao. Her loyalty to her Taekwondo master/teacher shines in this drama. Although Guang Ya, the Taekwondo master’s biological daughter, draws a line with him after the drug incident, Bai Cao never changes how she treats him and her belief that he is innocent never wavered. She also refuses to change her master even though that can lead to a better future in Taekwondo. Liked how she has great strength due to practice even though she didnt undergo any Taekwondo training. Felt that she looks a lot more cool than Ruo Bai when doing the Taekwondo moves haha. Liked the soft toy that she carries around. It looks like a grass which kind of represents her. Enjoyed watching her growth as she becomes better and better at Taekwondo. Liked how Bai Cao respects Chu Yuan’s decision to never do Taekwondo again without question and even prevents the battle between Ting Hao and Chu Yuan.

Liked the development of relationship and chemistry between Bai Cao and Ruo Bai. Liked the interactions between Ruo Bai and Bai Cao, even though most of the sweet interactions happen without the knowledge of the other party (as mentioned above about unconditional love). For example, a sweet but funny scene is where Ruo Bai secretly unlocks the gate for Bai Cao to enter as she comes back late/after curfew time but she jumps over the wall (?) despite receiving the note from under the gate. Liked watching Ruo Bai’s smiles haha.

Felt neutral about the character Chu Yuan. The good part of the character and the bad part of the character balances out haha. Liked how he is caring and gentle, and how he has a background story of being very good at Taekwondo but quits due to various reasons. However, he did not firmly reject Ting Yi and caused harm to Bai Cao so he is not good enough for Bai Cao to me. Plus, there is always a right timing for something and he loses his chance to be with Bai Cao due to him leaving. Even if he comes back and is sure of his feelings for Bai Cao, it is too late haha.

Liked the character Ting Hao. He is a good brother to Ting Yi and a good friend to Bai Cao and later a good friend to Ruo Bai. It is cool that he is good at Taekwondo. It is funny how Ting Hao starts to like Bai Cao after he pulls her into his car through the ceiling to prevent her from getting hit by his sport car. It is funny how he tries to hide his identity and gets closer to Bai Cao. Laughed at the ridiculously (?) funny methods he uses to confess his love for Bai Cao like pouring flower petals through a drone (?), and singing to Bai Cao with a band in front of many. Although he is immature and doesnt care about Bai Cao’s feelings at the start, he gradually becomes a more understanding person. It is good that he is so rich haha. Liked it when he uses his wealth for good purposes like the phone and tracking device he gives Bai Cao when she goes overseas and they come to good use when she really is separated from the others on the street as she went to catch a thief. It is funny how he always wants to compete with Chu Yuan or whoever he deems worthy. Later on, when he finds out about what Ruo Bai did for Bai Cao without letting her know, he hints to Bai Cao about it and gives up pursuing Bai Cao. Liked how he is a good friend to Ruo Bai towards the end when he forces and personally brings Ruo Bai to go for check-up and consultation, even though Ruo Bai is too stubborn and didnt go for treatment at the end. My sister liked the character more the second time we watched it together. May become a fan of Chen Xiang after this drama.

Liked the characters Xiao Ying and Yi Feng. Liked how Xiao Ying is so cheery and bubbly. She adds quite a lot of humour to the drama. Liked how she is such a loyal friend to Bai Cao. It is funny how Yi Feng is often seen yawning. Liked how Yi Feng is good at Taekwondo. Liked the friendship between Yi Feng and Ruo Bai. It was fun to watch the interactions between Xiao Ying and Yi Feng. Liked the development of the relationship and the chemistry between them, even though they didnt become a couple at this season and Xiao Ying likes Ruo Bai initially. May become Leo Wu’s/Wu Lei’s or Tan Songyun’s fan after this drama.

Liked the acting by the cast! Liked how there are many heartwarming and touching scenes in this drama and I could feel tears in my eyes several times. For example, when Xiao Ying kneels in the rain with Bai Cao to stop her from continue doing so, when Xiao Ying brings Bai Cao to her house and say that Bai Cao can depend on her, when Bai Cao cheers for Guang Ya during Guang Ya’s competition even though she was forced to leave that Taekwando team before that. It is funny how Min Joo always wants to challenge Bai Cao haha. It is funny how young Min Joo is immature but strong and Sheng Hao, her senior, has to try to keep her under control. Liked En Xiu who is cool and elegant. This is one of the few times that an actress can attract me without many scenes. Liked her interactions with Bai Cao, Ting Hao, Chu Yuan, and Min Joo. Enjoyed watching the interactions among people in Song Bai Taekwondo Center. Didnt like Ting Yi, the biased coach, Quan Sheng Taekwondo Center people and a little dont like Guang Ya. Liked how there is an analyst who is Ting Hao’s friend.

Currently watching Yang Yang’s new drama The King’s Avatar.

China Drama Review Sweet Dreams 一千零一夜

Updated on 29/12/18 as it feels like something is missing

Sweet Dreams (2018) 一千零一夜

Enjoyment: 10/10  Pace: 9/10, 8/10 sometimes  No. of times I watched it: 2

starring Deng Lun as Bo Hai, Dilraba Dilmurat as Ling Ling Qi, Zhang Haowei as Chen Mo, Zhu Xudan as Zhou Xin Yan, Chen Yilong as Mo Nan, Wang Ruizi as
Lu Bao Ni

Finished it at around September this year. Cant remember why I started watching this haha. I remember that while it is screening, I randomly watched the most recent episode and found Bo Hai too crazy and the actor did not look good-looking so didnt pay much attention to the drama. But cant remember why I started watching it haha. Maybe because I read somewhere that there is fantasy in the plot? Lucky I didnt miss this drama haha…

Loved the fantasy element in the drama a lot! Due to error in the sleep bands which aim to promote better quality sleep, Ling Ling Qi is able to enter Bo Hai’s dreams when both of them are asleep and wearing the bands. It is interesting to see the different dreams Bo Hai has and they are related to what is happening in the company. Liked how there are many types of settings for the dreams and how Bo Hai and Ling Ling Qi go into different roles each time. Some settings are very beautiful haha. I especially liked the setting where it looks magical and there is a lake and many plants around. Liked the costume the most at around ep 23 (written in the instagram/facebook haha). It is funny how Ling Ling Qi uses the dreams for her own purposes. As she can see clearly that the other person in the dream looks exactly like her crush, Bo Hai, she tries to hug and kiss him and later on when she is not happy with real life Bo Hai, she avenges him in the dreams. After both of them know that they are actually meeting each other in the dreams, it is interesting how they choose to communicate what they cant say in real life in the dreams instead. Loved how the curtains open automatically when Bo Hai’s alarm sounds in the morning and he awakes from his sleep!

Enjoyed watching the chemistry and the development of relationship between Bo Hai and Ling Ling Qi. It is fun to watch them bicker a lot after they meet. Although Bo Hai is at the upperhand since he is Ling Ling Qi’s superior, Ling Ling Qi does not back down easily and sometimes win in the bickerings, making Bo Hai speechless. Felt that it is good that there is chance for Ling Ling Qi to pursue Bo Hai and then the other way round. There is smooth transition in the development of relationship. The relationship is built step by step gradually and it feels comfortable watching. Liked how they protect each other in the drama. While Bo Hai protects Ling Ling Qi in various scenerios in relation to company issues, Ling Ling Qi actually protects Bo Hai by giving him inspiration in face of company problems and calming his fears by protecting him in his dreams. Felt that the raining scene when Bo Hai secretly follows Ling Ling Qi to ensure her safety is romantic haha! He isnt sure if Ling Ling Qi can accept his past but still silently looks out for her (if I didnt remember wrongly). The scenes where Bo Hai dances the square/plaza dance (the older people like Ling Ling Qi’s mother dance) are cute haha! Liked their sweet interactions a lot when they are lovers. It is cringy at times when Ling Ling Qi is all out to pursue Bo Hai and I skipped some parts of it if it is too much for me haha. But I could bear with it most of the time. Could feel the pain in the hug when they finally meet each other again after the downfall of Bo Hai’s company and it felt like something was pulling at my heart. Liked how that scene was executed.

Liked the portrayals of friendships in this drama, Chen Mo+Bo Hai+Xin Yan and Ling Ling Qi+Bao Ni+Mo Nan. Bo Hai, Chen Mo and Xin Yan are founders of the company and they know each other quite well. All 3 are in good rapport and Chen Mo+Xin Yan follow Bo Hai’s lead well. When there are company problems, they can work together well and are able to settle them swiftly. A friendship is not perfect and there are conflicts sometimes due to difference in thinking. Liked how they are able to resolve the conflicts well. Liked how Ling Ling Qi+Bao Ni+Mo Nan share happiness and sorrow together. They look out for each other and encourage each other. Although there ends up to be unrequited love in the friendship of Ling Ling Qi+Bao Ni+Mo Nan, my sister liked how Mo Nan is loyal and didnt have a change of heart (even though Ling Ling Qi is taken). Mo Nan and Bao Ni continue to just be friends (sry for the spoiler).

Among the friendships, I especially liked the friendship between Chen Mo and Bo Hai as Chen Mo is Bo Hai’s best buddy and helps him share his burden and worries. Liked the scenes where they play mobile games together happily. It is fun to watch them teasing and threatening each other haha. Liked the lollipop couple Chen Mo and Xin Yan. It is funny how Chen Mo can cheer Xin Yan up by offering her lollipops which are different in shapes and sizes each time. My sister feels that Chen Mo is the only one that didnt make any wrong decision in the drama haha. Also liked the concept of family in this drama.

Loved how this drama is based on the floral industry. This drama reminds me that I want to learn flower language and arrangement one day haha. Liked how Bo Hai is good at floral art and how he thinks of floral designs as a way to heal and enlighten people. Found it good that he doesnt forget his original intention of doing floral art and opens a small online flower shop at night just to help people solve their worries or help them move on. The change of attitude of the staff towards the company and Bo Hai towards the end feels unreal. Doubted whether they are sincere or not.

Liked how there are many plot twists and good plot development due to various company problems caused by traitors which made me chase the drama. Liked how Bo Hai is smart and very good at dealing with those problems. Liked the acting by the cast. Liked Dilraba Dilmurat’s acting and she acted well in all the scenes ranging from crazy fangirl scenes, bickering scenes to loving scenes and sad scenes. Felt sad at the scene (at the bus stop) where she desperately tries to save Bo Hai’s poster when they are taken down or destroyed. Admired Ling Ling Qi’s fighting spirit. Became a fan of Deng Lun after this drama. Liked his acting. Liked how he portrayed the emotional struggle his character feels as his character brings along with him a “bomb” of potential colour blindness that may explode anytime (watch the drama to know why). Was touched when he shows how much the company and Ling Ling Qi mean to him. When he had to choose one, he chooses Ling Ling Qi first while trying his best to look for alternatives to save the other. Liked the character, Bo Hai, a lot. Deng Lun manages to add depth to the character by showing us different sides to his character for example, the playful and serious sides. Deng Lun doesnt look good-looking at certain angles+certain hairstyles and when he is acting angry haha but his overall appearance is still good. The ending theme song that he sang for this drama becomes my most favourite Chinese song for now haha.

Felt that the pace is quite good overall even though it is slow at times, especially when Ling Ling Qi strikes a deal with Mo Nan to leave Bo Hai so that the company can be saved. Didnt like Mo Nan as a character even though he causes quite a lot of conflicts in the drama which leads to some plot development. Although he realises his mistakes and helps Bo Hai get back the company towards the end, I just cant forgive what he did haha…

This is my most favourite drama for 2018 (not including I am not a robot and A Korean Odyssey as they are 2017-2018 dramas). It is the first time a China Drama actually wins Korean Dramas. One of the factors is fantasy which happens to be lacking in kdramas this year. Another factor is plot development and plot twists which is especially lacking in most romantic comedies and lacking in those fantasy kdramas I watched. The pace may be slower than kdramas since there are about 3 times the number of episodes but for this year the pace for most kdramas are not fast enough for me. It is also some time since I feel sad when I finished watching a drama.

Unexpected 来到你的世界 (2018)

Cast: Austin Lin 林柏宏 as He Jie, Li Hao Fei 李浩菲 as Lu Zi Xing, Huang Jun Jie 黄俊捷 as Gong Cheng, Huang U.Lin 黄一琳 as Pei En Cai, 张津铭 as Su Zi Xun, 王迩忆璇 as Bai Lian

Episodes: 23

Recommendation: 9/10

My Own Review:

This drama seems to be specially made for my sister haha since she feels that life is tough and wants to meet the author that is controlling her life to change her life completely. 😀 She is comforted by this drama. This drama illustrates that no matter how uncontrollable life is, there will still be a day that you can change it as long as you have the direction and a good mentor.

Liked the fantasy elements in the drama. Like in W-2 worlds (kdrama), He Jie can make things appear or happen by drawing them. After He Jie’s mission in the comic world is completed, it is cool (and scary) how things start to break apart and disappear or fall to kill He Jie or Zi Xing since He Jie is supposed to return to his world and not stay in the comic world. My sister likes the flower He Jie draws specially for Zi Xing to signify their love. It is a flower only both of them know about.

Liked how He Jie is smart and how there are clever plot twists when he deals with situations his own way. It is fun to watch He Jie try his best to ship the lead couple and prevent Zi Xing from falling for the male lead (and commit evil deeds) even though things may not turn out the way he expected. It is interesting that He Jie can feel Zi Xing’s pain (since the real people will be connected to the comic characters their missions involve) and he always seems to be in more pain than her haha. Enjoyed watching how Zi Xing slowly falls for He Jie instead and how He Jie starts to develop feelings for his characters. My sister and I liked how He Jie resolves the conflict with Zi Xing when Zi Xing realises who he actually is. He manages to prove to her that the characters have their own thinking too and it is not always controllable by him. However, towards the end, I felt that the pace of the drama becomes slower and there are not enough emotion-provoking scenes for me.

The male lead and female lead in the comic

My sister likes Pei En Cai’s personality as she is happy and easy-going. Even when she suddenly becomes a poor family’s daughter or when she realises she is just part of a comic, it does not bother her much and she just accepts everything and takes them in stride. That is the personality He Jie gives her and it seems good to have such a personality in real life haha. Gong Chen seems to have it all but he is actually a lonely person that desires freedom. He Jie draws whatever he desires in real life for Gong Chen but did not know that he also draws in his own loneliness for him. It is funny that He Jie draws his own parents as Gong Chen’s parents and is surprised to see them when he goes into the comic world. My sister feels that Gong Chen is generous and loyal to his friend. When He Jie becomes Gong Chen’s friend+personal assistant, he stands up for He Jie and helps He Jie when He Jie needs it.

(The actor acting as) Gong Chen is good-looking haha. But He Jie is also good-looking haha… Although some people may like this couple more than the lead couple, my sister and I liked the lead couple more. Felt that the development of relationship is a little unreal  for the comic’s lead couple. Maybe the lack of evil deeds done by the evil female supporting character after He Jie’s appearance affects the development of their relationship. He Jie actually writes Zi Xing’s experiences and sufferings based on his own experiences which makes my sister think that they will definitely like each other since they are so alike and feels a bit doubtful about their relationship. To me, this is not really a problem since in real life, being similar does not necessarily mean you will fall in love with the person. It is just an added advantage in a relationship since they can understand each other better.

My sister doesnt like Zi Xun as he only aims to prove himself and show that what he did was right. This kind of people is pathetic even though they cant help it. As Bai Lian comes from the real world, both of them cant remain in the comic world after her mission is complete and one of them has to die. Bai Lian chooses to sacrifice herself. Zi Xun feels angry with himself as he does not want to lose what he has in the comic world and doesnt try to stop her. Before Bai Lian dies, He Jie gives her his magical pen as a present (if i didnt remember wrongly). Zi Xun later becomes evil and uses He Jie ‘s magical pen for evil deeds. The character Zi Xun does add some thriller and conflicts towards the end though. Liked how Bai Lian is a fan of He Jie and it is cute and sweet whenever she calls him Da Da or gives him the heart hand sign.

Special mentions to the character that often cooks chicken soup as she is always cheerful, loyal to her friends. My sister also likes the policeman that is in charge of logic in the comic. He fills the logic gap whenever it is needed. When He Jie comes to the comic world, he is a great help to He Jie, telling him how to leave the comic world, giving him the magical pen and releasing him from the police station when he was arrested a few times haha.

Rush To The Dead Summer China Drama

rush to the dead summer

Rush to the Dead Summer 夏至未至 (2017)

Cast: Cheney Chen as Fu Xiaosi, Zheng Shuang as Li Xia, Bai Jingting as Lu ZhiAng

Episodes: 48

Recommendation: 6.5/10

My review: I did not finish watching this show because it started to get draggy when they graduated from high school and parted ways. So if there is any wrong information about the drama, I will like to apologise beforehand. Fu Xiaosi is not very good at expressing his love. Therefore, I find him too cold among many other cold characters in other shows. So if you are finding a melodrama, I do not think that it will be a suitable drama for you as it talks more about a normal school life and the difficulties a teenager will face. But the main reason why I stopped watching the drama is still due to the draggy and not interesting plot after their high school life. My favourite character in this drama is Lu ZhiAng. He is a very nice guy and always tries to be cheerie in front of others.

China Drama Review 我们的少年时代

Oh no! I have so much backlog. I still remember my friend saying that I would have to watch a lot of dramas (my part) and shows to sustain a drama and show review blog. But actually, I think I will always have a never-ending backlog as I usually jump into a few dramas before even writing about those I have finished watching and then I become too busy with other commitments to blog. It seems faster and easier to finish dramas than write reviews…

Watched this some time ago.

Boy Hood (2017) 我们的少年时代

starring Xue Zhi Qian as Tao Xi 陶西, Danson Tang as Bai Zhou 白舟, Li Xiao Lu as An Mi 安谧, Wang Jun Kai (王俊凯) as Wu Tong 邬童, Wang Yuan (王源) as Ban Xiao Song 班小松, Yi Yang Qian Xi as Yin Ke 尹柯, Song Zu Er as Sha Wan 沙婉, Zhang Zi Feng as Li Zi 栗梓, 李小胖 as Jiao Er 焦耳, 李俊濠 as Lu Tong 陆通

My sister asked me to watch this drama with her as it includes her favourite TF Boys and one of my most favourite singers, Xue Zhi Qian. She told me about how Xue Zhi Qian may be the main lead instead of the TF Boys and then she somehow forgot about the drama until one day during the holidays when we have lack of dramas to watch.

Zoom into characters: Tao Xi is a lazy baseball coach due to past traumatic experience regarding baseball which leaves him hurt and with regrets. The school team which he is leading is doing poorly and the team members have lost their vigour and fighting spirit. Ban Xiao Song is an exception as he cheers his team on and plays the game to his best ability, even though he himself forgets the competition date. When the school decides to disband the baseball team due to low school budget and lack of results from this after-school activity, Tao Xi readily agrees. Ban Xiao Song’s dream is to fulfill his father’s dream of doing well in baseball after seeing his father being defeated at the baseball field. He works hard to form a new baseball team and persuade Tao Xi to establish the after-school activity again. Wu Tong who is an excellent pitcher from an opposing school team happens to transfer to Xiao Song’ school and Xiao Song grabs the chance to start his tough recruiting mission. Since Wu Tong’s parents “divorce” and he lost contact with his mother, the relationship between Wu Tong and his father deteriorated. He lives alone and is sometimes followed by his father’s secretary. Yin Ke lives a restricted life and his time is managed and planned by his mother. Because of his mother, he quits baseball and immerses himself in drawing instead whenever he gets some extra time. An Mi’s education is sponsored by Tao Xi’s father and she works for him. Tao Xi’s father instructs her to make Tao Xi resign from being a teacher+coach. At first, she is keen in doing so but as she gets to know Tao Xi better, she starts to think twice about it.

It is quite a good watch! Liked the plot of the drama and we were chasing after most of the episodes. The drama starts out well and it is funny how the whole baseball team is sleeping, including Tao Xi, the coach. Xiao Song even has to call Tao Xi by phone to wake him up. Tao Xi’s handphone ringtone sounds like a siren haha. There are many hilarious scenes throughout the drama such as Xiao Song, Wu Tong being scared (thinking a small child is a ghost) while the three of them were catching a prankster in the school at night, An Mi’s ridiculously poor cooking skills and disastrous dishes that make me laugh non-stop just watching (or when I think about it another day), An Mi’s drunk scene. The funny scenes are nicely intertwined with the heartwarming scenes as the drama goes. An example of a heartwarming scene is the boys running and pushing Jiao Er towards the finishing line and Jiao Er refusing to give up the long distance run when he fell in order to ensure the whole class get A for Physical Education and Tao Xi does not have to resign. The ending with the baseball game and the individual member’s personal thoughts and reflection was a bit exaggerated but it is quite impactful and touching that I could feel some tears in my eyes.

Wang Yuan’s character has the most depth among the three in this drama while Wang Junkai’s character has the most depth in Finding Soul (as the AI who thought he is human). Loved Yi Yangqianxi’s character in both dramas haha: the intelligent guy (different types of intelligent guy in both dramas). Wang Yuan acted well in this drama to portray the character’s different sides: the loved child, lazy school student, passionate baseball team leader+player. He portrayed the character’s struggle, mixed emotions, and happiness well. Admired Xiao Song’s persistence in forming the baseball team from scratch, continuously improving himself, and cheering everyone on during trainings. It is so nice to be in a happy, loving family that offers not only material support, but also emotional support. Enjoyed the development of a solid friendship, as well as the interactions, among Xiao Song, Wu Tong and Yin Ke who have very different personalities. Wu Tong is portrayed as the cold person yet Yin Ke who is friendly and helpful is actually a cold and firm person on the inside. Wang Junkai seems to be challenging a tougher role this time and I felt that he did it well except how he expressed the anger of the character.

Xue Zhi Qian, as usual, is humorous and the role fits him well haha. He is good at making scenes naturally funny. He looks good with or without spectacles haha but looks slightly better with spectacles… It is cool when he catches the baseball without looking or when he shows his baseball related skills. Liked how he portrayed his happy-go-lucky, nonchalant character but also including a sense of sadness and pain from within at times. Enjoyed watching the sweet interaction between Tao Xi and Guo Guo, Tao Xi’s friend’s daughter, throughout the drama. Liked how Tao Xi takes care of her like his own daughter. It was fun to watch how Tao Xi deals with the mischievous and energetic Guo Guo. There was one time that Xiao Song, Wu Tong and Yin Ke have to take care of Guo Guo and they had a hard time, except Yin Ke who brings her to an amusement park. Could feel tears in my eyes when Guo Guo had to leave Tao Xi. Liked the interaction between Tao Xi and his best friend, Bai Zhou, as they tease each other often and give each other support when needed. It is cool how Bai Zhou understands the students very well. Liked the development of relationship between An Mi and Tao Xi from next-door enemies to superior-subordinate to colleagues to friends. However, to me, the romance between Tao Xi and An Mi feels unreal, need a bit more spark and more chemistry. Didnt like the parts when Tao Xi falls for a childcare/kindergarten teacher (?).

It was interesting to learn more about baseball. Liked the interaction between the students of the school. Especially liked the characters Jiao Er (enthusiastic person when spreading school news) and Lu Tong (narcissistic person with a follower) which engaged me and add humour to the drama. Shipped Xiao Song with a student he often argues with haha. When Tao Xi is forced to become the form teacher of the class, I liked how he is like a role model to the students (most of the time haha), giving them motivation to do well, teaching them valuable things such as teamwork, and guiding/helping them when they need help. He is also observant and knows how to make good use of a student’s strengths, sometimes for his own benefits… Tao Xi’s father doesnt look like him or feel like his father haha which makes their relationship seem weird. It was a bit slow pace towards the end of the drama when the focus did not return to the baseball team for quite some time.

China Drama Review 不一样的美男子1

This post is long overdued haha. Found this drama at a period of time when there was not much kdrama to watch. It is quite a gem and an awesome sci-fiction romantic comedy! Doing this based on memory.

Buyiyangdemeinanzi/A different kind of pretty man (2014)

starring Zhang Han as Gao Yuan Shu 高远树, Emma Wu as Tong Yu Chen 童雨晨, Lu Chen as Li Yi 李伊, Ji Ya Wen as Yan Chao Chen 燕超尘, Zhang Yun Long as An Yi Fei 安逸飞, Fang Yi Lun as Ye Jiang Fan 叶江帆, Fan Shi Qi as He Xiao Qian 何小歉, Yi Yi Zi (易易紫) as Zhao Xiao Qi 赵小琪 (Xiao Qian’s manager)

For Season 1, Yuan Shu was proposing to his girlfriend, Yu Chen, lavishly when a boat crashed into them and caused a horrific accident. Something pierced into Yuan Shu’s heart, Yi Fei injured his eyes, and Xiao Qian is badly burnt. All 3 of them get a transplant each: heart, eye, skin from a scientist (same accident) that uses his own body to experiment on a drug (?) that produces super power but also negative side effects. The 3 good friends are thus gifted with three different super powers that change their life. Gao Yuan Shu (Zhang Han) can control electromagnetism, An Yi Fei (Zhang Yun Long) can predict the future, and He Xiao Qian (Fan Shi Qi) can read other people’s thoughts.

The fantasy is what attracted me to watch this drama though the title doesnt haha…The title “Not the same handsome guy” sounds tooo childish and too direct(?) haha? The funny part is that most of the people in the drama somehow are exposed to the virus (?) and have different types of super power as the drama progresses. Liked the development of relationship between the 3 friends. From the start, they often tease each other and seem like they will never grow up haha. As it goes, they are good support for each other and they help each other in times of need.

As it goes, I especially liked Yi Fei as a character so does my sister who likes the character, Yi Fei, in both seasons. (I end up becoming a fan of that actor even though he acts as different characters in both seasons.) Although Yi Fei likes Yu Chen too, he gives up his love since Yu Chen and Yuan Shu are already a pair. He seems optimistic most of the time but I liked how there is complexity in his character, his strong loyalty, his selflessness, his vulnerability sometimes helplessness, with a lingering feeling of light sadness his character expresses. It was a bit slow pace when Yuan Shu chooses a few times to give up on love when he knows that he may die. Despite how I still ship him with Yu Chen, his character just does not shine through the drama like Yi Fei’s haha. It is cool when Yuan Shu can make things fly around with his new ability. It is romantic whenever Yuan Shu and Yu Chen are at sea or near the sea since Yuan Shu can make waves move and control the “lights of the sea”. Yi Fei’s ability to draw/paint out the future so vividly is also cool but the sad thing is he does not have the ability to change it. This ability seems like the least useful to me. I dont think I ever want to know my future, especially one that I cant change.

Xiao Qian’s ability to hear people’s thoughts is not as fascinating to me after I watched kdrama I hear your voice. Yet, it is interesting that his ability actually makes his girlfriend-to-be friend+manager suspicious of him, and instead of making their relationship closer, it actually draws more distance between them since Xiao Qian with his newfound ability gets closer to fame. It is conflicting that she wants him to be innocent and mature at the same time. Special mentions to the actress who acted as Li Yi as I liked how her character is portrayed.

Enjoyed watching how Jiang Fan is a genius at IT, example hacking. Liked the interaction between Jiang Fan and Yi Fei. Each of the people who is exposed to the virus (?) has a negative side effect while they have a special ability. (Looks like any good thing comes with a sacrifice? It is unique how this drama portrays super power as something that comes with a price.) Yi Fei’s one is that he will suddenly fall into deep sleep anytime and anywhere, and I am impressed that Jiang Fan fetches him to his house and takes such good care of him. Always wanted to watch a drama that concentrates on this kind of sleeping disorder/illness haha (though this one does not focus on it enough)! I think they are just meant to be for each other? No matter it is in season 1 or 2, both of them only have each other and look out for each other at all times. But it is sad they dont have a girl each haha…

Oh no, I just realised after writing this review that there are no english subtitles for this drama. Luckily I didnt write the review early this year. If not, you all may have a longer wait if you want to watch it haha. Now at ondramanice only have raw version for 10 episodes? You can watch it at youtube for full version but i dont think there are english subtitles. I didnt even realise it since I know Chinese. Since this is the case, I will postpone the review for Bu Yi Yang De Mei Nan ZI Season 2 to another time haha…

China Drama Review I love my president though he is a psycho (2017)

It is actually a short drama with only 10 episodes haha but warning: last episode still not subbed if I am not wrong. Luckily I know Chinese haha if not I surely cannot wait for so long… Quite a good drama though in the middle somewhere when the couple is separated and with some misunderstandings, it becomes a bit slow paced. Haha, it is already a short drama, by right I shouldn’t feel the slow-paced part isn’t it? The background family issues intrigued me at the start but towards the end, made me bored and I skipped through it but will go back to re-watch it one day. As usual, I love the psychology aspect in it! I liked how the headstrong lead characters depend on each other and provide each other with warmth, despite how both of them come from dysfunctional families and lack certain things. Shall not give too much spoiler!
