w-kdrama

starring Lee Jong Suk as Kang Chul, Han Hyo Joo as Oh Yun Joo, Jung Yoo Jin as Yoon So Hee (Kang Chul’s secretary), Lee Tae Hwan as Seo Do Yoon (Kang Chul’s bodyguard), Kim Eui Sung as Oh Sung Moo (manhwa author/artist, Yun Joo’s father), Lee Shi Un as Park Soo Bong (Oh Sung Moo’s assistant)

Plot: The drama is about two people from two different worlds-the fiction and the real world. Cardiothoracic surgeon novice Oh Yun-joo (Han Hyo-joo) goes to her father’s office looking for him and ends up being pulled into the webtoon world that her father created. In the process, she saves a dying Kang Chul, becomes a main character in the webtoon, falls in love and works with Kang Chul to get rid of the villain so as to safely escape with him to the real world.

Zoom into characters: Kang Chul is framed for killing his whole family and lives a life of misery as an outcast who cannot even mourn for the loss of his family properly. It was so miserable for him that he decides to commit suicide according to the storyline. However, the story took for a turn when he refuses to obey the command of the author and hangs on for dear life. Because of that, a new-found will grows in him and he is determined to survive and catch the murderer of his family. From then on, Yun Joo’s father is flustered that he cannot control his webtoon characters and becomes fearful of his own creation. As Yun Joo reads her father’s webtoon, she likes Kang Chul more and more and empathises with him. Her world is turned upside down when she enters the webtoon time and again due to Kang Chul thinking about her since their first encounter and she has to figure out how to return to her world.

Although people may complain that it is too brain-cracking as it goes, I found it quite a fun watch and like most of the crazy things like the “rules” that can allow Yun Joo to go back to the real world, rules that can allow Kang Chul to travel to and fro the 2 worlds and many others that are slowly revealed. There are also some moments that I found ridiculously funny such as when Yun Joo’s father lose his face (sry for the spoiler), and is controlled by the murderer in the story or that Kang Chul can summon characters to the real world by thinking of them as well. Besides making me question if there is another dimension and whether I live in the real world haha, this drama also makes me wonder if authors have the right to control characters’ fate (especially giving tragic ending) just like how in real life people in power tend to influence the fate of the weak without caring about what they think.

Found it funny when Yun Joo’s father’s assistant, Soo Bong, becomes more and more fearful of his job since evil characters are coming to life. Enjoyed how this drama portrays how the fans react to fictional characters with Yun Joo’s superior always wanting to find out what will happen next in the webtoon or criticising the plot twist (caused by Yun Joo), and people being excited when they see Kang Chul in real life. Sounds familiar in real life? The faceless murderer in hood really is scary. Kim Eui Sung acted well as both Yun Joo’s protective father, and the shameless and cunning villain. Funny how Yun Joo and her father’s life are so dramatically messed up by a webtoon, and they cant even control the outcomes in the story which brings about life and death situations to them too.

Love the relationship built between Kang Chul and Yun Joo and their chemistry, my most favourite part of this drama! It was fun to watch how Kang Chul keep thinking of Yun Joo and summoning her to his world much to Yun Joo’s exasperation. Liked their romance from how it starts: Kang Chul thinking of Yun Joo as the key to his life while Yun Joo is such a fan, to their lovely marriage to save Yun Joo, to their fight together against the villain and sacrifices made towards the end. Especially liked how Kang Chul makes the effort to use a book which depicts different romantic scenes as a guide and asks Yun Joo to choose so that he can follow through with it, so clumsy but cheesy in expressing his love!

Felt heartbreaking for Yun Joo when Kang Chul summoned her even though he lost his memory, making her come to his world briefly when she is in his subconscious. Knew that no matter what Yoon Joo will somehow be dragged into his world… Finally, liked Han Hyo Joo’s excited reactions a lot, especially at the start of the drama as well as how Lee Jong Suk depicts his character’s emotional struggle which adds depth to the plot and make his defiance and depressing times more moving.

Why you should watch: It has a very refreshing storyline where we get to learn about how fiction is made: the main plot, the rules in the fiction world and the characters. It is so unconventional and interesting to give life as well as a voice to fictional characters. Watched this some time ago but I guess I was attracted by the plot, and the cast, Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo. Was I chasing each episode? Feel that I did. Cant really remember haha…

Singapore Web Drama Review 勾魂使者

soulreaper

This is a pretty short drama consisting of just 8 episodes. Attracted to this drama because of Romeo Tan’s mysterious acting as a soul reaper in the trailer but end up liking Ian Fang’s character, Soul. His name totally matches this drama haha… How I wish Ian Fang (or maybe all the actors) has this hairstyle more often in dramas (am I being influenced by kdramas haha?).

Mirror of the Witch quotes (Korean Drama)

They said it was a mistake for me to live but I am going to fight to survive to the very end.

~Heo Joon& Yeon Hui

During the time I spent working hard in order to save your life, I live solely for you. I wanted to become someone who would save the person I love.
All I have left are my sincere feelings of not wanting to die. I just hope that my sincerity is not lacking for your sake.

~Heo Joon

I hope you will be in just a little pain and miss me a bit. I will savour the days we spent together, days that we will never have again.
I am sure that if your memories of our time together translate themselves into an ardent enough longing, we will meet again.

~Yeon Hui

I thought that I have to protect you but I gave you more pain.
I thought I always have to be by your side no matter what and protect you.
I thought that was what would be best for you.
Because of my misguided sense of responsibility over you, I have put you in more danger.
Now, all I hope is that you will be happy.

Celeb Bros JB and Youngjae

Celeb Bros (B.A.P. Young Jae and JB)

Review: Youngjae and JB are besties since their trainee years but did not meet each other for a long time as Youngjae changed his music entertainment. In their one day date, they did many things like going to the duck restaurant to eat, talk about their past, went to a psychology couple cafe and JB even cooked for Youngjae. Especially want to talk about the psychology cafe and when JB cook for Yoonjae.

I really wish I could go to the psychology cafe. That cafe is for couples or friends to know each other better by writing a questionaire. From the questionaire, psychologist told them about their personalities and I find it quite true. Hahaha…

The reason why JB cooked for Youngjae is because Youngjae did not know how to cook and wanted JB to cook for him. They had a great time listening to music while cooking and dancing after their dinner.

Anyway, they spent a great and quality time together.

This is my first time writing Celeb Bros. Hope you like it!! Please click here for more “Celeb Bros” review!! Thank you.:)

Drama Review Romance in the Rain

I chanced upon this drama quite randomly after becoming Leo Ku’s (古巨基) fan haha. 🙂

romance-in-the-rain-2           romance-in-the-rain

What makes me feel that I am watching a good drama is when I see Zhao Wei’s character, Yiping. The character Yiping adds depth to the plot as she is rebellious and strong-willed and aims to take revenge on the family that abandoned her mother and her. She would rather be honest and beaten by her father than plead for money lowly. Her first meeting with Shuhuan on the rainy day is such a nice scene but anyway Shuhuan actually has the ulterior motive of trying to dig out information of her relation with the high power Lu Family. Impressed by how Shuhuan is so patient and understanding and manages to change her so much. Enjoyed their chemistry and how Shuhuan seeks to protect and defend her when she is working at some nightclub as a singer. The scene when Shuhuan jumps out of the gift box as Yiping’s present to surprise her is perfect! (the funny part is that it is his friend’s (Dufei) idea and Dufei gave ducks as present to the girl he is pursuing) Liked how Leo Ku portrays Shuhuan’s occasional emotional turmoil as well, nicely carving in some flaws and vulnerability into his character.

However, it becomes a bit slow in pace in between as Shuhuan and Yiping’s relationship keeps breaking and one of them, mostly Shuhuan, has to mend the relationship. Despite that, its plot is still the classic type for an about 50 episodes drama depicting the tumultuous times in China, mostly romance and family but including some war scenes towards the end. The ending is pretty awkward by the way, you will know if you manage to sustain that long haha. Thankful that there are good endings for all couples!

Liked how Shuhuan and his friend, Dufei, collects news at all cost: fighting off bodyguards or gangsters, running on the top of trams etc. When the newsroom is flooded with animals by “helpful” people due to the report of an old lady trying to find her cat, it was so disastrous and funny seeing them trying very hard to save the place and get rid of animals, including snakes, monkeys and flying hens. It is funny how Shuhuan seems so perfect and is in contrast to his best friend, Dufei, who is so clumsy. Most if not all of my laughter due to this drama is caused by Dufei. His mishaps are just too much, such as falling on nails, falling off horses and his spectacles alone caused much misfortune, especially when he cant find them.  I am happy for Dufei when he finally succeeds in getting the girl he likes after all his persistent trial and error, and accidents. Liked how his girl’s kiss becomes his painkiller when he is injured in wartime and there is no Anaesthesia left.

Surprised that I will like the character Er Hao a lot in this drama as well. He is the eldest child of the 9th wife in the Lu Family. At first, I just regard him as Shuhuan and Dufei’s good friend but as the drama goes, he keeps capturing my attention. Not just his good looks haha… His role becomes more and more major towards the end as he attempts to heal his ex-girlfriend who is trapped in the past after losing their child and at the same time puts in effort to secure his relationship with his current girlfriend. It was heartwarming how he re-enacts their past happy memories, especially the memory where he has to chase the tram until the ex-girlfriend remembers and pulls him onboard. It is so hard to assure his girlfriend when he seems like he may fall for the previous girl again as he reconjures such beautiful memories but his ability to remain loyal and maintain his relationship with his girlfriend (with the help of his friends) is just admirable.

Random drama quick reviews!

Hi, everyone! I still have two more examination papers but since I have a bit of time before the next paper I shall write a quick review of the dramas I watched so far.
~Dramas are really good stress relievers and medicine for the brain when we are fighting with examinations. But when overused, you may be overdosed. Lucky JM
Haha random quote time!

I finished watching W- 2 worlds and Let’s fight ghost long ago as well as kind of browsed through Shopping King Louie and I think I may write full reviews of them after my examinations are over. However, it will take me some time to recall what I watched haha.

I enjoyed both W and Let’s fight ghost with the nice chemistry as well as the plots, especially the intriguing plot in W which involves such creativity by employing metafiction.w
After watching W, my sister comes up with the crazy idea that maybe we are living in a book and someone is probably controlling our lives. Perhaps we should try to develop our free will and do the things that we want instead of letting the author determine our lives with his storyline? Haha. Liked Han Hyo Joo’s reactions a lot in W. Imagine meeting the fiction character you loved or idolised by simply landing in their fiction world or them coming out unexpectedly from the book hehe. Liked how Lee Jong Suk expresses his character’s emotional struggle.

letsfightghost
Really liked Taecyeon and Kim So Hyun in Let’s fight ghost. I know that Kim So Hyun is really good at acting and people may think that (besides the age gap) it is not suitable for Taecyeon to act alongside her but I just like how Taecyeon portrays his characters, making me root for him such as in Dream High.  Enjoyed watching Taecyeon’s character, Bong Pal, change after he meets Kim So Hyun’s character, the persistent and cute ghost.

shopping-king-louie
I had high expectations for Shopping King Louie with its cast and plot but it didnt meet my expectations haha. I like losing memory dramas but somehow this drama didnt make me enjoy it as much as I thought I would and the plot seems rather dull. Haeundae Lover was so much better for me. If the plot involved something like Louie and Bok Sil succeeding in creating their own brand with Louie’s capability to discern products, then gaining recognition despite not having his memory, and even managing to threaten the existence of Goldline, his grandmother’s company that his uncle managed to steal from him, it would be an interesting watch. There is just not enough conflict in this drama with the villains giving in too easily and Louie seems like a good-for-nothing that only knows how to spend money by shopping and pursue love. Perhaps if you want to watch a rom-com drama with little evil and all good you can try this haha.

Moving away from Korean Dramas, I had a sneak peak into You can be an angel too 2 and Fire up and found both not suitable for me.

fireup2
Fire up is a drama to recognise the contribution of criminals in the society and call for people to be more accepting towards them. The plot seems fine but I just didnt want to see repeated couple (from 3 wishes) played by Thomas Ong and Huang Biren again haha. When watching it, it also gives me the feeling of Run, Jung Mi, a long series korean drama that was on Channel U around that period of time so it didnt pique my curiosity much.

youcanbeanangel2               you-can-be-an-angel-too2                                                                                                                     From @xubin.carrie Instagram
I liked Rebecca Lim and Bryan Wong’s acting in You can be an angel too 2 but them alone cannot sustain my interest without Elvin Ng and Sheila Sim from the previous season. Xu Bin acts well as the nice guy and nurse that is in charge of sending people off in their last part of their life journey, and it seems like his acting has improved :). However, I didnt like the love triangle between him, Carrie Wong and Aloysius Pang. Although I am more of a fan of Aloysius Pang than Xu Bin, I just could not get myself to like Aloysius Pang’s character in this drama even though I know his character is just following the plot of going into a path he will regret later on. If Thomas Ong appeared more often in this drama, I would have considered watching the whole drama but he appears less than half the time. So, I guess I will be dropping it. At least I gave it a chance…

Besides, I suddenly went to watch a Chinese drama called Romance in the Rain which is a well-known drama long time ago in 2001.  After watching “I am a Singer Season 3”, I suddenly become a fan of Leo Ku, 古巨基. Haha…and next thing of course is to source out his dramas, expected of a drama fan. I was a bit disappointed when he has limited dramas but I still managed to find the one that he was most well-known for so yay I found it!

romance-in-the-rain

It is an around 50 episodes long drama and it was a bit draggy somewhere in between but overall I liked the plot and the cast. This drama is something like the tumultuous times in China due to the Japanese trying to conquer China as well. Zhao Wei, whom I know has a great reputation in acting, acted very well in it and it is so nice to see her in action since I seldom watch Chinese Drama.

romanceintherain4     romanceintherain5

Her character, Liping, has a strong personality and has bad relationships with her powerful father who married the 9th wife after her mother, and neglecting her mother and her as a result. Shuhuan (Leo Ku) is a news reporter who seems perfect from his great fighting skills to his eloquence in speaking. When both characters meet, at first Shuhuan wanted to dig out news from her about her family background but soon he starts to fall for her, defend her in many occasions, and help her patch up her relationship with her family (her father side).

Review:

Kim So Eun was invited by the four boys to the Pick-A-Mission club as it was a wish made by Kang Tae Oh who passed away due to an illness. Kang Tae Oh and Seo Kang Joon both had a crush on Kim So Eun and Kang Tae Oh made a wish to Seo Kang Joon to not like Kim So Eun.

Kim So Eun decided to accept the invitation as it was the first time she got an invitation and she slowly become interested in the group as she wanted to find out why she was the only girl invited to the group. All of them did all sorts of mission until Kim So Eun found out the truth and the club disbanded. Kim So Eun then decided to reform the group

My review: Actually I had watched this show already but I forgot about it until somebody commented about it. I find the show hilarious as the guys are very funny and the missions they carry out are also funny. Also, I felt that the reason of why Kim So Eun was invited to the group was kind of expected. I felt that the ending should have kind of shown who went with Kim So Eun so that the plot will be more filled up. Overall it was still an okay drama.

Dream Knight Korean Web Drama Review

dream knight

Dream Knight(2015)

Cast: Song Ha Yoon , JB , Jr and other Got7 members

Episodes: 12

Recommended Ost: Forever Love By JB

Review: Joo In Hyung’s  mother gave In Hyung four dolls when she was a little, which she named JB, Mark, Jackson and Youngjae. She liked JB the best among all the dolls. When her mother passed away, she shred tears of sadness on the dolls, which became his dream knights and came to live. One day, the four dream knights came to her house and wanted to sleep on her bed. She was shocked and tired to get them out of her house. One of the scenes was throwing a pail of water onto them. The four of them disappeared as knights cannot get in contact with water. So the dolls became wet too. Anyway, it should be around that part when she realised that they were the dolls.

Junior, Yugyeom and Bambam, which was once dream knights, were in a kpop group called Got and were students of the school. In Hyung is a fan of Jr. There was once when JB pushed In Hyung to Jr as he was upset In Hyung do not know who they are and it caused a scene. Many fans started disliking her. In Hyung wanted to join the dance competition as the winner will get to have a performance with Jr but she hurt her leg. The four knights try to teach and dance with her to make her the winner.

Jr realised that JB, Youngjae, Mark and Jackson may be knights and he asked Bambam and Yugyeom to test them, like if they have power or they will disappear in water. One funny part was when Yugyeom tried to get water on Youngjae but ended up spraying water on a lady. Haha.

After Jr knew they were knights, he told them that if In Hyung shred tears of happiness, they will be gone and if they want to live as humans, they had to betray their owner, which they did. However, JB did not want In Hyung to die as he love In Hyung and is willing to sacrifice himself.

Jr was not satisfied with the answer JB gave and tried doing many things like dating In Hyung to make him betray her but to no avail. But through this, In Hyung also knew that she likes JB as she went on a date and missed watching a concert with JB. So JB and In Hyung went on a date and the knights disappeared when she shred tears of happiness. And the ending is after some time or years(can’t remember), JB came back to find In Hyung.

My own review: I feel that Jr doing all this is only trying to prove himself correct that it was right to betray his owner. And I feel that this drama is quite sad because the four knights had to disappear and I feel that no matter who is gone, the party living will be sad. I would like to especially comment about a couple I ship, which is Jackson and Min. It is actually quite sad that he cannot go with Min because he had to sacrifice himself for In Hyung as well. This is one that I felt pity about as he cannot be with her.
