starring Song Joong Ki as Yoo Shi Jin, Song Hye Kyo as Dr. Kang Mo Yeon, Jin Goo as Seo Dae Young, Kim Ji Won as Yoon Myung Joo

Plot: Shi Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives and Mo Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. Shi Jin and Mo Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs, their dates don’t go well. Finally, they break up after they found out that their values in lives seem to differ too much. Shi Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to Urk. Meanwhile, Mo Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague’s privileged background and eventually is sent to Urk for voluntary work. They cross paths when they meet at Urk. Will they be able to make up for their differences?

Since this drama is so popular and I am writing this review quite late, I am not going to write Zoom into characters.

Liked how their characters are very distinct: Shi Jin being humorous, Mo Yeon being impulsive, Dae Young being rigid and Myung Joo going all out for love. It was unexpected that Shi Jin falls for Mo Yeon so fast haha which is good since the plot now focuses on whether they can accept each other’s jobs and differences. It was fun to watch Song Joong Ki (haha), especially when he tells jokes at many different occasions which adds lots of humour to the often serious atmosphere.

Liked the development of relationship between Dae Young and Myung Joo, and I am surprised by how the couple captures so much attention, even outshining the lead couple at times (didnt want to admit it haha). The touching scenes of separation (eg. the hug when Myung Joo is reaching Urk and Dae Young leaving) and the heartwarming scenes (eg. Dae Young talking with Myung Joo over the walkie talkie when she is infected by fatal virus) hammers the relationship nicely.

Although this drama is about military, I somehow didn’t feel worried for their safety and the impression given is that Dae Young and Shi Jin are invincible. The only part that I could feel Shi Jin’s vulnerability completely is the episode that he has to harden his heart and kill his past friend/comrade Argus with multiple shots. Argus was once an American soldier but now a money-minded person doing things against morality. At that part, Shi Jin’s emotional breakdown was heartfelt which was not frequently seen in this drama where he calmly and coolly handles all life and death situations. The relationship between Mo Yeon and Shi Jin reaches greater depth when their interaction is not only about saving each other’s lives literally but also how they support each other emotionally and offer comfort when another is down.

The earthquake scenes are the most gruesome among all scenes and I couldn’t really watch them. Thankfully, I didn’t get nightmare because of that haha. Towards the end, the scene that Mo Yeon’s friends in the hospital thought that they saw Shi Jin’s ghost when they see him through the video call is so funny. My sister likes that scene and we couldn’t stop laughing.

Why you should watch: Because of the cast (especially Song Joong Ki)! This drama has a solid plot and I enjoyed the suspense, plot twists and thrills. The drama wraps up the job of a soldier and a doctor well and draws a nice comparison between the two seemingly different jobs that actually have the same goal of protecting the people.

Favourite MVs+ osts: Once again by Mad Clown, Kim Na Young

Should I become a girlfriend of this dangerous yet charming man?

Why are we always being thankful for saving each other’s life? Other couples are thankful for giving each other rides home, celebrating anniversaries…

I have lost this fight as you have a weapon I cannot go against – your sincere heart. I will lose this fight for Lieutenant Yoon’s sake.

Take ownership of your actions!

I’m not worried about his job, I’m afraid to be apart from him so there’s nothing to worry as long as we’re together now.
