Random thoughts Star Awards 2018

As usual, I looked forward to Star Awards and it is one of my anticipations of the year.

This year’s one is super cool, the stage, the lighting and the effects. However, it is shorter and there is also a little feeling of being more withdrawn from the audience. A bit sad that there are no funny skits this year but it is still nice to see idols there as a fan of many… Didnt really like the parts when they used words to describe a character nominated. After all, it is drama which is visual and the words felt technical, dead and sometimes overwhelming. And they should have shown video clips of the nominated characters before the actual day like the other years so that I can enjoy it many times on TV haha. That is actually my favourite part for Star Awards every year.

While looking through Star Awards, I also can see if I have missed out any good dramas, and When Duty Calls and Have a Little Faith caught my attention which I may consider watching. My sister says that she has lost interest in Star Awards since the people she is a fan of somehow got out of her list, mostly due to lack of acting in good dramas or in good roles. Luckily, I still have a sustainable list which is one of the reasons why I still watch sg dramas or Star Awards. It was nice to see Elvin Ng giving an award to another person since he has already attained Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste Award 10 times but will miss the times he is nominated for something, and gets a chance to obtain an award and say a speech. Hopefully soon! Sadly, My Friends from Afar didnt win any award though I had hoped they would win something. Usually, the dramas I like a lot dont win much awards haha…for example Blessings, 3 Wishes. Nice to see Desmond Tan, Shaun Chen, Romeo Tan attaining awards! Rebecca Lim is really getting Best Actress Award for roles I thought she wouldnt haha but not going to complain since I am her fan. Andie Chen and Kate Pang’s child is cute haha. Nathan Hartono got quite an amount of screen time and it was nice to see him bouncing around and being immersed in his music (since Sing! China) like he is inviting us into his own music world. But actually i hoped that the artistes can sing their dramas’ theme songs haha.

Not sure why but there seems to be more heartwarming moments this year? Was funny and heartwarming when Jin Yin Ji was awarded her first Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste Award after so many years of being an artiste. It was unexpected but not sure why there was so much commotion since there are always unexpected awardees for this, even for best supporting actress/actor or best actor/actress like last year. Sometimes, I am suspicious of how the judges choose the awardees for certain awards. But the good thing is that the recipients of the awards can be anyone…

Random thoughts 7

Hello everyone! I have been busy recently so couldnt clear much of my backlog or write new reviews. Will put up a post once I am more free… For the past few months, I managed to edit the Korean Drama reviews King 2 Hearts, Gu Family Book and Operational Proposal to make them more “filling”.

Nowadays, sadly not many good Korean Dramas that attract me to watch. My happy time reduced haha. :/ Lucky for my sister, she still has some China Dramas to keep her entertained. I finished I am not a robot which kept me entertained. Then, I dashed through Boy Hood with my sister which is a fun watch with one of my favourite China singers in it. A Korean Odyssey started out well but I feel that the plot is getting more bland with not enough plot twists and its emphasis on tragedy is a bit too strong for my liking. The reason that I am not putting it aside is because I enjoy the interaction between the demon characters+Sam Jang+her secretary.

Doubtful victory started out very well but became quite a drag about halfway through. They could have focused more on Jong Sam’s talent and the detective team instead of political problems and struggles. Although the actors and actress acted well in Two Cops, the plot is too crime related which made me stop watching it after some time.

I (almost) finished watching Mind Matters which is a good watch with solid plot, and nice humour and acting. Liked how they dedicated a drama to mental illnesses to spread awareness about them. Mental illnesses are actually quite common but people somehow treat them like a taboo and feel fearful about people with such illnesses. Started watching because of Qi Yu Wu and end up liking the plot.

hello

Since my review writing ability has improved yay and I can write a lot more now haha, I have decided to add on to reviews I am not satisfied with in the pages (eg Korean Dramas, Singapore Dramas and Taiwanese Dramas) rather than create new posts for now. Hopefully I can still remember the dramas that I have watched and am only writing the reviews later…

I am currently watching many dramas with my sister that havent finished screening. Dont know why but suddenly have so many dramas to watch. Must be the pure crime season slowly moving off…

Doubtful victory is a thriller and luckily, it has not finished screening if not I think my sister will feel like watching everything in one go. Even I myself is dashing through it and sometimes watching it when there are no subtitles. It is crime related but the ending of each episode and Yoon Kyun-sang’s acting just makes one want for more. Two cops is also crime related but the fantasy element of a con-artist’s soul being able to possess a righteous detective’s body is funny and captivating. I also liked the acting of Jo Jung-suk. Not sure if we are going to continue to watch Nothing to lose as the plot is not interesting enough even though the perspective of the drama from the point of view of a judge rather than lawyer or prosecutor is refreshing. I am not a robot is interesting and I am watching it because of Yoo Seung Ho. For sg dramas, I am watching My friends from afar and seeing if I missed out any good ones.

Random Long Series Korean Drama Reviews My daughter Geum Sa Wol&Still Loving You

Woah. Finally have a bit of time for blogging…, used much of my free time watching dramas and shows. And I am just procrastinating something now so making use of some procrastinating time to write hahaha.

I was glancing through long series drama My Daughter Geum Sa Wol as my mother was watching it on Channel U. This drama uses architecture as the theme. Typical of long series dramas, there is a hidden daughter and the mother treats her own daughter badly without knowing. And then there is the so-called lead couple that should not get together since the father of the guy ruined the family of the mother of the girl. Sa Wol, Oh Wol and Hye Sung were good friends at the orphanage until Hye Sung becomes blinded by greed and fear.

The more irritating villain that kind of angers me is actually not the evil man that caused lots of deaths but the insecure girl that causes misunderstandings, and tells lies wherever she goes just to get what she wants. If only she could be satisfied with what she has, her misery and others’ misery will be greatly reduced. But then the plot would not have been able to run and many truths may be left undiscovered… She must have had a hard time living in fear of being abandoned or exposed but that is just an excuse for her actions. Felt that Se Hoon is too good for the insecure evil Hye Sung haha. She is too lucky as an evil second lead, considering all the things she receives despite all the bad deeds she does.  (By the way, I didn’t put any pic of her haha)

Sa Wol-Chan Bin couple

Liked the characters in the drama such as Sa Wol, Chan Bin, Se Hoon, Oh Wol, Oh Wol’s father, Oh Wol’s children that are portrayed well.

Oh Wol’s father and his son, Se Hoon

I felt tears in my eyes when I was watching Oh Wol’s father shouting her daughter’s name at the site of the collapsed building meant for the orphanage children. As he was poor, he left his daughter at the orphanage and intends to pick her up once he earns enough money to be able to support both his children at the same time. Little does he know that the “good” building he wants her to stay in for 1 day actually collapses before he could fetch her home.

Child-like Oh Wol comforting Sa Wol

I especially liked how Song Ha-yoon expressed Oh Wol, especially when she becomes child-like after an accident indirectly caused by Hye Sung.

I feel sad for Hye Sung’s kind adoptive mother who is being kept in the dark about important things. She does not know that the child her husband so persistently wants to adopt is “his own” child.

I was surprised when I see Yoo Jae Suk In this drama haha…hahaha. Although the revenge plot in this drama is interesting, it isn’t a drama I would want to chase. I think I only watched about 1/2 here and there of the whole drama+last few episodes to save the agony.

I also happen to browse through Still Loving You which is quite cute&sweet haha. Was randomly browsing through YouTube and suddenly pressed into an episode…

The starting of the drama is hilarious when Soo Ho first started to learn cooking so that he can work for his rich father’s food company. Love the lead couple and their chemistry! The plot is kind of cliché but I like how the lead couple’s love thrives throughout the drama. They actually married quite early in a long drama and their married life is just too perfect haha. Like how Soo Ho stands up for Eun Soo and trusts her all the time. I was expecting some conflicts but looks like there isn’t much after they got together or is it I was not patient enough to watch till there? After some time, the drama plot becomes quite dull so I didn’t manage to watch the whole thing episode by episode.

Liked how the characters grow and mature, especially the Soo-Hyun-Bitna couple haha.

Another interesting major conflict in this drama is how Soo Ho’s sister, a doctor, wants to marry a single father who is raising a pair of twins.

That’s all. Time to go back to my dull “long series drama” life…

Random thoughts and Showtime Reviews

Here is a random thought post and a small random navigation around the blog. 🙂

We have Apink’s Showtime, Exo’s Showtime and Infinite’s Showtime at our blog, written by my sister who likes variety shows. She especially likes these 3 kpop groups. I like Infinite too haha…, surprisingly the only kpop group that I like, maybe because I mostly only hear kdrama osts rather than kpop groups’ songs. I watched the first episode of Infinite’s Showtime with her and it is really good haha, the car driving session is so heartwarming!

I heard from my sister last time that she was quite sad that Exo is somehow separated now. She likes them as a whole. Many groups seem to be changing such as Beast too, another group she likes. I think she watched whichever showtimes there are already, just that she only wrote certain episodes for those 3. Since she manages to write a few episode reviews for each showtime, enjoy if you like these kpop groups!

Click here for Apink’s Showtime reviews.

Click here for Exo’s Showtime reviews.

Click here for Infinite’s Showtime reviews.

You can find them under Showtime page bar too!

I even see her quickly finishing up all the Weekly Idol episodes, sometimes still complaining that there are not enough episodes or some being unable to watch. Recently, she showed me the X2 speed dance, random play dance and some high pitch voice competition in Weekly Idol which are funny. When I check the number of Weekly Idol episodes today, I am shocked to see that there are so many, almost similar to the number of running man episodes. :O

For Running Man, I think I only finished every of the first 100 episodes which are entertaining. I especially like those with a story in the background or those that include a mission that has to be carried out before the whole team is caught by the chasers. I also like the museums or historical sites that they visit while carrying out missions. For the first 100 episodes, what I can still remember and laugh at until now are the parts like Gary’s peaceful expressions in pictures no matter how chaotic the photo-taking process is, the rain in the first episode that cover their self-introduction especially Lee Gwang Soo’s- the unlucky one, and the Yoomes Bond episodes. For the rest after 100, when my sister watched every week I just slot in whenever I am free. Of course, I watched the episodes with my favourite actors in them haha… I got to know many different groups and people I would not have known if I didnt watch Running Man. After Running Man change its members, my sister did not watch it much anymore and I also did not get exposed to it anymore haha. Enjoyed the days Running Man episodes made me laughed and made me stay up late to “chase” them.

Taiwanese Drama Quick Review Love Cuisine

Didnt expect much from this drama as the lead actor didnt look good looking.. haha…erm… and the first episode just somehow left an impression of blandness and old, especially due to the colour effects. And also just felt a bit ridiculous with the mermaid chasing human scene in the first episode.

However, it becomes better and better as the lead actor’s character becomes distinct which makes him more and more good looking haha. Besides that, the conflicts within and between students stick out well in this drama.

Enjoyed how Han Jie has such good ability in his cooking throughout the drama and how he conducts his hell-like strict training for the students. Liked how Xiao Rou cares for her students, being able to deal with all kinds of students: catching Ma Chong Sheng whenever he tries to skip school to work, and being able to understand and advise the arrogant Wang Mai Zhi who comes from a rich family.

Full review coming out soon~

Hi!

Hopefully this adjustment to our blog works~

The changes are as such:

For now, Korean web drama page is an overview of all the dramas we, especially Joyous JY watched, and will not include the reviews. Reviews will be found in posts instead.

At the foot of the blog on home page, there will be a category column to help you all navigate to the posts you may be interested in.

For other dramas and shows, we are still adjusting and experimenting to see if we should focus on pages or posts.

My current status:

Finished:

Korean Dramas: Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Hwarang the beginning, Liar and his lover (speed watched, want to watch more slowly haha), Let’s fight ghost, Shopping king Louie

China Dramas: 不一样的美男子 Buyiyangdemeinanzi 1 & 2, Boss and me, Master Devil dont kiss me 1&2, Whirlwind girl, Love O2O (speed watched)

China Web Drama Finding Soul (Review will be written by Joyous JY)

Somehow dropped towards the end:

Cheese in the Trap, Man living in the house, Legend of the blue sea, Goblin

Still watching hehe:

Love cuisine (Taiwanese)
I love my president though he is a psycho (China)
My Secret Romance (Korean)
Could have added Singapore drama The Lead to this list but too bad dropped it haha.

Hi again haha

I am back again. After much consideration, I have decided and told my sister that I will still be blogging even in this month. No matter what happens with Google, it should not affect whether I should blog or not.

After all, I started a blog with my sister to channel our favourite hobby- watching dramas into something productive, something that not only helps us with our writing skills, but also something that can help others, be shared with others. Even if there is just one person visiting our blog, I should still continue sharing. I wont be losing anything anyway.

So, before I become busy again, I will add on as many reviews as I can. Thanks again for the support for this blog! 🙂
