Watched Star Awards on the day that it was screened but I am not going to write a post on it as I am quite lazy haha and also it was not that different this year. Was a bit unhappy that Mind Matters didnt win any award but I kind of expected it since the awards dont usually go to where I want them to. I wonder when Ivan Lo will get the Young talent/Green Apple Award. He should have gotten it long ago. One of the highlights is Eric Chou (one of my sister’s favourite singers) singing 2 of his songs haha. Still sad about Aloysius Pang’s demise whenever I think about it. Never thought I would feel sad for a real person’s death if I am not close with the person. Saw Jerry Yan in Star Awards and Trump Card vs Trump Card 4 and I am getting curious about Meteor Garden 2001, even though I dont like to watch remakes. I happened to watch Boys over Flowers first. I am a fan of Vic Chou so I may try it out.

Just finished He is psychometric which is the first kdrama that I finished watching every episode after Are you human too. It is creepy and morbid but the fantasy is good and the cast acted well. I am in the process of scanning through My Poseidon which I feel that it is not good enough due to the bland plot revolving around the company. Watching because of Zhang Yun Long. Finished some of the China variety shows like Gao Neng Shao Nian Tuan and Trump Card vs Trump Card 4 with my sister. Finished Run for time 2 some time ago too. I watched Trump Card vs Trump Card 4 because of Hua Chen Yu, one of my most favourite China singers. Looking forward to Abyss kdrama which has fantasy haha… Put aside Singapore Drama Hello from the other side near 1/4 or 1/2 way. The starting and fantasy are good but there is a lack of interesting plot development after some time. See if I have the motivation to watch more and write a review about it later on. My sister and I feel that we wouldnt want to live in that other world if we were to die. That world is like continuing the life of a human and we have to continue caring about having money etc.

Will write a review soon when I have time. Long for you 2 first followed by He is psychometric. Thanks for the support!

Clean with passion for now quotes (Korean Drama)

Cleaning is physically taxing and many people still look down on the profession. I admit it.

However, I dont think that can explain everything we do. Cleaning isnt simply about getting rid of dust and garbage. I believe that it can make someone’s life a little more hopeful. What I have felt since starting this business is that I could see hope on the faces of our clients who were satisfied with our cleaning service. A belief that their lives can get better. It gave them such a small hope. I trust that cleaning has a positive power. That’s why I am proud of what I do and it is also the reason why I deeply respect all my employees.

~Jang Sun Kyul

It must be hard. Washing up and getting changed multiple times throughout the day. And maintaining this level of cleanliness both at home and work must require a lot of time and effort. I suddenly thought that it must be very hard.

I’m sure there’s a reason for it. Just like me. This will sound like an excuse but I thought even taking showers was a luxury when I had multiple part-time jobs. I gave up washing my hair and got 10 more minutes of sleep and I gave up changing to fresh clothes to study more. Living like that for a while turned into a habit. I’m sure your reason is different but you must have a legitimate reason as well. Everyone has a story.

~Gil Oh Sol

I am thinking of confessing my love too. If I miss this opportunity, I might regret it later. It’s you, Oh Sol. The person I want to protect.

Random thoughts 10

Currently, there is a kdrama drought even though my friend is enjoying her time watching The Last Empress. Or maybe there is a serious kdrama drought since Are you human too? My sister, as usual, is still having some China Dramas to watch. Dont know how she find so many China Dramas haha…

I am now spending some of my drama time watching the latest Running Man episodes and China variety shows like Run for time and Who’s the murderer. I watched until ep 8 for Clean with passion for now which is not too bad but probably not enough tension or interesting plot development to keep me going. I chased Memories of the Alhambra until episode 6 then the pace dropped quite a lot and I scanned through it. The light in your eyes doesnt seem to be going in the direction I wished it will. Liked the acting by Nam Joo Hyuk and Han Ji Min, and the fantasy. Liked Park Sun Ho’s acting in The Best Chicken but not really attracted to the plot haha. Watched 2 episodes of The Crowned Clown because of Yeo Jin Goo but the plot doesnt attract me. Dropped The Last Empress after the first episode. Thought there will be some fantasy involved but there isnt and it is more of a “high intensity” revenge story.

My sister and I just finished watching Long for you 2 China Drama together and it is considered good but I have to go back and watch the first few episodes since she watched those without me. Liked the fantasy in it! Watched episodes 11-14 for Emperors and me. The funny thing about this drama is that whenever the female lead time-travels to a historical time period, she brings back the emperor of that time period to the modern times. But this drama is a bit too brain-cracking for me and I dont feel like watching the scenes where the emperors try to get used to their new environment and fit into the modern times so I may not watch it. My sister and I started on Singapore Drama Hello from the other side as it has fantasy involved, even though it may be a bit morbid.

Hope I will get some motivation to write some reviews haha.

Random thoughts 9: Dramas dropped+current schedule

Feeling a little bored haha so just going to write what I have been doing or will be doing.

My sister and I have been dropping many Korean Dramas these days, probably more than in the past? I plan to finish the reviews for Sweet Dreams and Ashes of Love by December(hopefully since I am a procrastinator). Sad that lack of dramas to chase.

Although there was quite some hype for My ID is Gangnam Beauty, we dropped it after the first episode haha. The male lead is quite good-looking but I guess that’s not enough to make us continue. After the mystery is uncovered in What’s wrong with Secretary Kim, the tension and suspense that captivated me to watch is gone and I felt like dropping it. The mystery seems to be holding up the drama and once it is gone, the attractive part of the drama seems to collapse with it. And we did drop it towards the end. Hopefully I can pick it up again.

More recent dramas such as Where stars land, Still 17, 100 days my prince, Devilish Joy, dont give me the motivation to chase or at least watch till the end.

My sister and I dropped Where stars land and Still 17 about 1/4 to half way. My sister dropped Where Stars Land after the confession scene while I managed to scan through most of it. The starting was very good and the pace and characters were great for both dramas but somehow after around 1/4 of it, the pace drops a lot and the characters lose their distinctive characteristics which attracted me. It is quite a waste. I will try to persist and finish these 2 if I can. Where stars land seems to be better than Still 17 as Lee Soo Yeon’s emotional struggle of wanting to lead a normal life consistently shines through in the drama. However, both lack interesting plot development and plot twists after 1/4 of it.

100 days my prince and Devilish Joy are dramas related to memory loss. I love dramas related to memory loss but the plot developments in these 2 dramas are not enough to attract me to watch it episode by episode. For Devilish Joy, I feel that it would have been better if the impact of memory loss felt each time Ma Sung loses his memory is greater and if there are more fun/comedy scenes related to the memory loss. Not sure if I am right since I didnt watch quite a lot of episodes. 100 days my prince’s plot does not seem interesting enough even though there are some attractive features such as the prince becoming a commoner but not acting like one after losing his memory and him marrying, living and interacting with a commoner that was actually once a noble lady.

Maybe I am just being fussy? Am I supposed to be contented and just watch those I can get my hands on since it is difficult to consistently include creative and completely new things in dramas? My sister and my preference for fantasy dramas is probably hard to meet? The trend has moved from fantasy to crime to probably hardship and suffering and it seems to be moving towards sci-fiction now.

Due to lack of fantasy dramas, I went back and watch Back to 1989 Taiwanese Drama and You who came from the stars kdrama haha… My sister and I tried When time stopped but the tone is quite grim. Not sure if we will continue. My sister suddenly felt like watching a law drama after a role play at school haha so we watched Lawless Lawyer. We finished about 3/4 of it then my sister found it getting boring so we put it aside for now. The only things that may keep me going in Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter are to find out who is Mama Fairy’s real husband and to watch the cat/tiger that can transform to human. For the newer dramas, I am considering Memories of the Alhambra and Clean With Passion For Now. My sister and I have watched the first episode for both. Memories of the Alhambra seems to be a sci-fiction drama about augmented reality. I suddenly have this weird+crazy thought that Chan Yeol’s character is killed by the game character he created after I read some comments about the drama. I laughed my way through most of the first episode of Clean With Passion For Now. Considering watching it but it doesnt have fantasy elements though, not sure if the pace will drop later.

On a side note, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the instagram account. At first, I usually post around 7-8 posts per drama but after I learnt how to cut videos, I have double the number of posts to put. Usually I can finish posting about a drama shortly after a drama is completed but now it seems to be dragged since I have to arrange so many posts and have to arrange such that it is not always the same drama appearing. In the past, I only post 2 posts in around 6 days but now I seem to need to post 8 posts for 4 days and still cannot finish posting. :\ Feel that I am spending too much time on the instagram account and I wont be able to maintain the frequency of posting once school starts. Hope I can settle this before this month ends.

Ashes of Love quotes (China Drama)

My 10 most favourite Singapore Dramas till today

As I accidentally deleted most of my Singapore Drama posts, I may be posting some of them again but it will be exactly the same as the past posts (unless I have the free time to add more stuff haha).

I started watching Singapore Dramas since around 2010. My first drama (if I didnt remember wrongly) was Breakout and because of that, I became a fan of Elvin Ng after seeing him act as an autistic person. It was quite a “crazy” action-packed drama and most of the people got killed or died in that drama except Elvin Ng’s character and his girlfriend. That drama left a deep impression on me as it was quite a dark drama except Elvin Ng’s character and his girlfriend who seem to be separated by a layer of naivety and fortunately wasnt killed in all the “mess” haha…

If you have been to this blog before, you would have known that I watch not only Singapore Dramas, but also Korean Dramas, China Dramas (not as many as my sister), and Taiwanese Dramas (sometimes). Some people may say that Korean or China Dramas are a lot better than Singapore Dramas due to the acting (sometimes I think so too) and plot (nowadays hmm…) but I think that there are things that are uniquely good about Singapore Dramas. It is good that Singapore dramas dont use corruption or unfairness (if I didnt remember wrongly) as a base for most storylines which makes them more pleasant and comfortable to watch. I like Singapore’s school related dramas, maybe because it is more relatable and also more sincere and touching to me. There is usually little exaggeration for Sg dramas and romance is not totally the focus or not emphasised (can be both strength and weakness). Like the concept of family portrayed in Sg dramas. However, probably due to lack of actors and actresses, there is a high chance that the couple will be paired together again in another drama which leads to me not watching certain dramas as I already liked the couple in another drama/context.

These are highly recommended Singapore Dramas that I love. (Arranged according to year)

Doing this purely by memory.

1. Courage, Loyalty, Integrity, Fairness (2011)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was the Qi Yu Wu and Joanne Peh couple, and Elvin Ng and Romeo Tan’s friendship.

Liked Qi Yu Wu’s character as he is quiet, anti-social and different from the norm. And enjoyed how Joanne Peh’s character slowly breaks the ice.

Liked how Elvin Ng’s character is portrayed as carefree, lazy and does not care about anything. But there was a nice turning point when he starts to show that he does care about some things after all. When his best friend, Romeo Tan’s character, died in a stabbing attack, his emotional struggle was heartfelt. Romeo Tan’s character, on the other hand, works very hard to make it to the special force if I am not wrong.

2. Poetic Justice (2012)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was Dai Yang Tian haha, and the interesting plot of how news is made and the direct impact of news on people. Until now, I still remember Desmond Tan’s character’s funny love realisations and embarrassing pursuit of love in this drama. Liked how Rui En’s character is righteous. A similar kdrama, Pinocchio, is more emotion-provoking but this drama is still not replaceble to me.

3. Don’t Stop Believing (2012)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was Elvin Ng’s character as a counsellor, his relationship with Felicia Chin, his interaction with the students, and the interaction between the students.

The relationship between the students are well-developed and I liked the background story of each student in the drama and their growth to become better people. Liked how Felicia Chin’s character is an overly enthusiastic teacher. Felicia Chin’s character had to slowly adjust her approach to better influence the students. Enjoyed how her relationship with Elvin Ng’s character develops. Enjoyed watching Elvin Ng’s character’s firm approach with the students.

4. Beyond (2013) X 元素

What left the deepest impression on me until today was the fantasy. Lots of unexpected types of nice fantasy that I didnt see in kdramas which is/was my best source for fantasy dramas. Liked Jeanette Aw’s acting in this drama.

5. The caregivers (2014) Missy 先生

What left the deepest impression on me until today was Thomas Ong’s portrayal of the job of a dedicated nurse. To me, this drama is better than You can be an angel too. It was nice to watch the development of relationship between a male nurse and a female doctor which is not commonly seen in dramas haha.

6. Blessings (2014)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was Shaun Chen’s acting, the interesting plot of the ancestor accidentally time-travelling to the future and attempts to save the deteriorating family business after it lands in the hands of the descendents who have no interest in the business or are too lazy to hone their skills.

7. 3 wishes (2014)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was the dark portrayal of greed. After the first 3 wishes, there are negative and cruel side effects accompanying the realisation of a wish. Liked the concept of family in this drama.

8. Tiger Mum (2015)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was the portrayal of family in this drama. Liked how the four children (acted by Julie Tan, Ian Fang, Aloysius Pang, Bonnie Loo) have distinct characteristics and how Huang Bi Ren’s character, Tiger Mum, deals with all of them separately, and eventually gains their acceptance and becomes their mum.

9. The Dream Job (2016)

What left the deepest impression on me until today was how cunning Shaun Chen’s character is in getting what he wants, Shaun Chen’s character’s emotional struggle, and how the rich man reunites his children by offering them the dream job of “acting as his children” (haha).

10.  Mind Matters (2018) 心。情 (Havent written the review, probably a few months later haha)

What I liked about it is its solid plot, its dedication to mental illnesses, and the good acting by Qi Yu Wu, Jessica Liu, Shane Pow, and Denise Camillia Tan, especially liked the Shane Pow and Denise Camillia Tan couple. First time seeing Qi Yu Wu acting comedy scenes haha.

Some of the full reviews can be found here.

Haha, feel like watching them again…

Magic School Korean Web Drama

Magic School (2017)

Cast: Jin Young as Lee Na-Ra, Nickhun as Joon, Yoon Park as Jae, Kang Yoon-Je as Lee Sung, Ryu Seung Soo as Master Han, Shin Eun Soo as Han Yi-Seul, Park Gyu-Young as Woo-Ri, Nam Sung Joon as Kim Jong-Man and Park Joo-hyung as Kei

Episodes: 16

Recommendation: 6/10

I did not finish watching this drama so if the review of the show is not that accurate, please understand. Thank you.

My Own Review: I watched this drama thinking that they are witches and wizards but it was not the case haha… I probably did not read the sypnosis and just watched it. But the reason why I dropped it was because the plot was not very interesting to me and I had a hard time loading the video to watch it previously. Maybe I will try watching again when I suddenly feel like watching magic tricks. I quite like the part that Joon was fascinated by the magic done by the magic school but the children in the hospital were totally indifferent towards the magic hahaha…

Random thoughts 8 and some recommendations

As my sister is busy, I have helped to complete the reviews for Three Colour Fantasy mini drama series since I happened to watch Romance full of life with her and glimpsed through The Universe’s Star when she was rewatching it. She has already written Queen of the Ring review.

The short reviews can be found at Korean Web Drama or Super Short Drama Series.

The Universe’s Star

Romance full of life

Maybe my sister will do her review for these dramas when she is free haha? Especially liked the fantasy in the 2 dramas. The way Byul in The Universe’s Star reacts and responds when she gets to know seconds (?) before Woo Joo is about to die each time left a deep impression on me. I liked the ending of the drama. Although the ending is sad, it nicely illustrates how time is precious, and no matter how much amount of time we are left with, we should cherish every moment and make every moment fulfilling and meaningful. Happy to see Yoon Shi Yoon in Romance full of life! He looks good in both hairstyles haha… Touched by the simple and heartwarming story in Romance full of life as we see how In Sung struggles with his desire to escape from being a failure and attempts to excel in life, and the drama ends nicely with So Ra’s “confession”. Trying not to give too much spoiler haha.

I feel that kdramas nowadays, besides moving away from fantasy, is going towards the bitter struggles and hardships trend haha. There seems to be higher intensity of pain and bitterness when struggles and hardships are portrayed. For example, Hospital Ship, Doubtful Victory, Come and Hug Me, Just between Lovers, The Great Seducer (I think). Even supposedly more light-hearted dramas like Are you human too and What’s wrong with Secretary Kim have such feelings lingering too.

Currently, I have put aside About Time (not enough plot development) and Ms Hammurabi (too crime-related) after some episodes. I am still watching Are you human too, What’s wrong with Secretary Kim with my sister. I have browsed through about 3/4 of Come and Hug me. I am browsing through Come and Hug me as it does not have enough plot content for me but the perspective it takes is interesting. I have tried Singapore Drama Gifted and dropped it haha. Was looking forward to it due to the trailer which portrayed complexity of and struggle in certain characters, and Elvin Ng acting in it but it is not as good as I expected.

I have scanned through the whole of China Drama Sweet Dreams and found it good enough to chase haha. Waiting to see if my sister wants to watch it with me… I am also starting on China Drama Ashes of Love. First time I am trying out a China Period/Historical Drama. I dont really like the plot of China Period/Historical Dramas as it is usually a combination of reincarnation and tragic love+sacrifice but I am trying this out due to becoming a fan of Deng Lun after seeing him in Sweet Dreams. Hope I can take the tragic parts later on…
