It is actually a short drama with only 10 episodes haha but warning: last episode still not subbed if I am not wrong. Luckily I know Chinese haha if not I surely cannot wait for so long… Quite a good drama though in the middle somewhere when the couple is separated and with some misunderstandings, it becomes a bit slow paced. Haha, it is already a short drama, by right I shouldn’t feel the slow-paced part isn’t it? The background family issues intrigued me at the start but towards the end, made me bored and I skipped through it but will go back to re-watch it one day. As usual, I love the psychology aspect in it! I liked how the headstrong lead characters depend on each other and provide each other with warmth, despite how both of them come from dysfunctional families and lack certain things. Shall not give too much spoiler!
starring Yang Yang as Xiao Nai and Zheng Shuang as Bei Weiwei
Although Love O2O is quite interesting at the start but I start to lose interest in it after some time. Despite that, I still continued watching until I finish it as I just want to continue seeing the lead couple haha. Their chemistry is good! Another reason I carried on watching is because it is relatable, with the student life, specifically university life as background.
Until about first half of the drama, I was intrigued by how the students can make characters that represents themselves in the games, and it is as if the real them manage to go into the computer games. The computer game becomes very much alive in this drama and people in the form of characters can have feelings, build relationships “physically” or communicate with each other in the game. It is an interesting perspective as nowadays many real life couples are formed through computer games haha. I laughed a lot at how Xiao Nai’s three buddies make jokes playfully or tease each other behind the scene or get excited when communicating in the game with Xiao Nai’s new found bride, Weiwei. Enjoyed watching the process of how Xiao Nai pursues Weiwei from online to offline, and enjoyed Weiwei’s reactions and character.
However, after some time the plot doesn’t attract me anymore as it is just about typical days in the university life, and how the relationships further develop, then going into company life. There isn’t much climax and I just look forward to seeing Xiao Nai and Weiwei. Managed to enjoy some romance here and there for the second half of the drama that made me think “Hmmm how nice to have such a boyfriend that is smart, confident, ambitious, working hard for his dream, cool, handsome, thoughtful, reliable, able to protect you well…” If I didnt remember wrongly, I remember him saying that nothing needs to be resolved with conflict which is so good, and I agree with it haha. But because he seems too perfect, it is also a little unreal. Maybe to some, he may seem too cold?
It is fun watching how Xiao Nai is competitive and his face suddenly becomes dark when knowing about a love rival like the basketball match with the guy I don’t really like throughout the drama. I don’t think that guy deserves Weiwei’s best friend haha. Although he is good with languages, he is so incapable in relationships, causing so many unnecessary misunderstandings. I feel that Xiao Nai and Weiwei in the drama are compatible in terms of looks and intellect haha!
The three buddies of Xiao Nai still continue to add humour to the drama and I feel that they all look good-looking haha, and they have distinct qualities that make them funny and likeable. I am touched by how they are loyal to Xiao Nai accepting him totally, and being at his back all the time, including working for his company no matter how other companies try to scout them.
I chanced upon this drama quite randomly after becoming Leo Ku’s (古巨基) fan haha. 🙂
What makes me feel that I am watching a good drama is when I see Zhao Wei’s character, Yiping. The character Yiping adds depth to the plot as she is rebellious and strong-willed and aims to take revenge on the family that abandoned her mother and her. She would rather be honest and beaten by her father than plead for money lowly. Her first meeting with Shuhuan on the rainy day is such a nice scene but anyway Shuhuan actually has the ulterior motive of trying to dig out information of her relation with the high power Lu Family. Impressed by how Shuhuan is so patient and understanding and manages to change her so much. Enjoyed their chemistry and how Shuhuan seeks to protect and defend her when she is working at some nightclub as a singer. The scene when Shuhuan jumps out of the gift box as Yiping’s present to surprise her is perfect! (the funny part is that it is his friend’s (Dufei) idea and Dufei gave ducks as present to the girl he is pursuing) Liked how Leo Ku portrays Shuhuan’s occasional emotional turmoil as well, nicely carving in some flaws and vulnerability into his character.
However, it becomes a bit slow in pace in between as Shuhuan and Yiping’s relationship keeps breaking and one of them, mostly Shuhuan, has to mend the relationship. Despite that, its plot is still the classic type for an about 50 episodes drama depicting the tumultuous times in China, mostly romance and family but including some war scenes towards the end. The ending is pretty awkward by the way, you will know if you manage to sustain that long haha. Thankful that there are good endings for all couples!
Liked how Shuhuan and his friend, Dufei, collects news at all cost: fighting off bodyguards or gangsters, running on the top of trams etc. When the newsroom is flooded with animals by “helpful” people due to the report of an old lady trying to find her cat, it was so disastrous and funny seeing them trying very hard to save the place and get rid of animals, including snakes, monkeys and flying hens. It is funny how Shuhuan seems so perfect and is in contrast to his best friend, Dufei, who is so clumsy. Most if not all of my laughter due to this drama is caused by Dufei. His mishaps are just too much, such as falling on nails, falling off horses and his spectacles alone caused much misfortune, especially when he cant find them. I am happy for Dufei when he finally succeeds in getting the girl he likes after all his persistent trial and error, and accidents. Liked how his girl’s kiss becomes his painkiller when he is injured in wartime and there is no Anaesthesia left.
Surprised that I will like the character Er Hao a lot in this drama as well. He is the eldest child of the 9th wife in the Lu Family. At first, I just regard him as Shuhuan and Dufei’s good friend but as the drama goes, he keeps capturing my attention. Not just his good looks haha… His role becomes more and more major towards the end as he attempts to heal his ex-girlfriend who is trapped in the past after losing their child and at the same time puts in effort to secure his relationship with his current girlfriend. It was heartwarming how he re-enacts their past happy memories, especially the memory where he has to chase the tram until the ex-girlfriend remembers and pulls him onboard. It is so hard to assure his girlfriend when he seems like he may fall for the previous girl again as he reconjures such beautiful memories but his ability to remain loyal and maintain his relationship with his girlfriend (with the help of his friends) is just admirable.
