Benefits of watching dramas

I have heard some people say that watching dramas is useless and there are some that wonder why people would watch dramas so I decided to write a post about it to answer them once and for all. Besides entertaining and making one experience various emotions like happiness and sadness, watching dramas provides life benefits.

Dramas help us
1) Become better people

-We learn to make better decisions.
Seeing the consequences of certain decisions prevents us from making the same decisions.
E.g. We should not say mean things and break up because we have a terminal illness or some problems that cant be resolved that happens often in dramas. The other party has the right to know the truth and it is better to face it together. If the other party wants to leave after you say the truth, you can let the person leave then. Sacrificing yourself for another’s happiness doesnt make you a hero if you harm the person in the process.
E.g. The importance of being courageous to avoid regrets
E.g. Dont pick up broken pieces of glass. I realised I have the temptation to do so too haha.

-We learn not to jump to conclusions.
Misunderstandings often happen in dramas because characters jump to conclusions. However, it is often revealed that there are other sides to the story and what u see may not be everything, what u think happened may not have happened. Besides making us think twice and find out more before coming to a conclusion, dramas make us more understanding towards others. There may be another side to the story of others that we dont know of.

-We can develop a better moral compass.
For eg., we should not harm others physically and mentally no matter what, we should take responsibility for our actions and correct our mistakes as soon as possible, we should stand up for what is right

2) Gain knowledge, broaden our horizons

-We can learn about various industries
Dramas have different settings and each of them usually focuses on a certain industry. Scriptwriters and drama producers probably did a lot of research on the industries they want to focus on so we will be able to gain insights into the industries just by watching dramas. It is interesting to learn about various industries without the need to personally work in them.
E.g. Medical industry, floral industry, fashion industry, food industry, media industry, architecture industry, crime related and legal industry, writing industry and many more

-We can learn ideas to be more romantic
No harm having more romance in a relationship/future relationship, isnt it?

-Dramas are perfect places for people-watching
I dont like to watch people in real life but I like to do so when watching dramas. When watching dramas, I can gain awareness of the motivations behind why characters act in a certain way and what actions will lead to what consequences. Most characters who do bad deeds are not hateful as there are reasons why they did what they did. Some characters who are foolish may make me angry but I am happy to see them grow and change. For characters who are talented, confident, and smart, I can learn a lot from them.

3) Reflect on life lessons

We can mature faster if we see dramas in a different light. If you are just on the surface admiring good-looking people (which I do too) and only seeing romantic scenes, then you are missing out on the reflective nature of dramas. I like how dramas make us reflect and they can be our life teachers.
E.g. Some dramas teach the importance of time and how we should make good use of it. Is it better to have a short period of time of bliss and be with people you like or not at all to prevent more sufferings later on?
E.g. Is it better to go after what society wants you to do or to go after what you want to do? Is it better to go after what society desires or to accept yourself for who you are?
E.g. Are people/living things who are different as harmful as they seem? Are people who are the same harmless?

To conclude, people may have a hobby for various reasons. There is no such thing as a useless hobby (as long as u dont harm others and urself) so we should respect whatever people like to do. Anyway, if you dont watch dramas, you are actually missing out on a lot without you knowing haha.

Dropped Korean Drama Review Still 17

Thirty but Seventeen/Still 17 (2018) 雖然30但仍17

starring Shin Hye Sun as Woo Seo Ri, Park Shi Eun as Seo Ri (teen), Yang Se Jong as Gong Woo Jin, Yoon Chan Young as Woo Jin (teen), Ahn Hyo Sup as Yoo Chan, Ye Ji Won as Jennifer,  Yoon Sun Woo as Kim Hyung Tae, Wang Suk Hyun as Hyung Tae (teen)

Watched here and there for this drama.

For Still 17, the big flaw that cant be ignored is the same as Where Stars Land which is that Woo Jin loses his distinct characteristics after some episodes. Liked how Woo Jin is weird, how he is a workaholic and how he doesnt care about what people think. Enjoyed watching how he goes around measuring things with a measuring tape. Liked the miniatures he makes. Liked the interactions among the characters in this drama. Enjoyed watching the development of relationship between Seo Ri and Woo Jin and how Seo Ri slowly breaks the ice. Liked the story of young Woo Jin and Seo Ri. Liked the characters, Seo Ri, Jennifer, the 3 rowers, and Woo Jin’s colleague, and superior. Liked the more light-hearted feeling in this drama and the comedy scenes. It is a pity for Seo Ri’s doctor friend who sacrifices so much for Seo Ri after Seo Ri’s accident but doesnt become her lover. I guess the way to interpret this is that life isnt fair. Doesnt mean that if you do a lot, you will get what you want. There are many factors that can get in the way. Liked the relationship between Woo Jin and Chan, especially towards the end when he hugs Woo Jin (like when they were young) when Woo Jin cries and guards outside Woo Jin’s door to prevent Woo Jin from leaving him again. Woo Jin’s and Seo Ri’s emotional struggles could have been reasons for me to continue watching this drama but unfortunately they werent good enough to sustain my interest. It will be unfair to the other dramas that I dropped if I write a long review for this drama so I am not going to do so.

Scanned through Korean Drama Review WSL

Doing this by memory. Finished scanning through it at around December 2018.

Where Stars Land/Fox Bride Star (2018)

starring Lee Je Hoon as Lee Soo Yeon, Nam Da Reum as Soo Yeon (young), Chae Soo Bin as Han Yeo Reum, Lee Dong Gun as Seo In Woo, Kim Ji Soo as Yang Seo Koon, Lee Sung Wook as Choi Moo Ja, Kim Kyung Nam as Oh Dae Ki, Lee Soo Kyung as Na Young Joo, Ro Woon as Go Eun Sub

The pace for this drama is very good for the first few episodes until Soo Yeon’s confession scene. Chased this drama until there. There are many emergencies at the airport and I enjoyed watching how the staff deals with the situations. It is interesting to know about the happenings at the airport. Felt that Soo Yeon’s emotional struggle shines through in this drama. However, it was a pity that the distinct characteristics of the character Soo Yeon is gone after the confession scene.

Liked how Soo Yeon just wants to live a normal life and how he is strict towards his subordinate and frank at the start. There are many behaviours he has that makes him different from the norm and I enjoyed watching that. For example, the reason why he chooses to work at the airport is because he can hide in the many people there and just focus on doing his duties, he doesnt answer his superiors and even questions if he has to do what he is being told to do, he is quick-witted and good at dealing with emergencies or difficult people. Liked how he is portrayed as Yeo Reum’s superhero at the start, saving Yeo Reum twice with his quick moves and metallic arm. It is cool when he does so. This is the reason why I started watching this drama. It is cool how his metallic arm can bend metal poles and lift cars and it is funny how he breaks things easily when he knocks into them. Laughed at the scene where the water dispenser breaks apart some time after his “attempt” to repair it. It was painful to watch when he starts to lose control of his metalllic arm and when the metallic arm starts to attract magnetic objects and he has to pull himself from the objects.

It is fine if Soo Yeon compromises a little here and there due to Yeo Reum’s influences but his whole character seems to change after the confession scene which to me, is a flaw that cant be ignored in this drama. Liked the chemistry and tension between Soo Yeon and Yeo Reum which are just nice in their relationship. It is funny how the dust robot cleaner follows Soo Yeon and even ships Soo Yeon and Yeo Reum once. Liked how Yeo Reum is compassionate. However, was unable to relate to her emotional struggles. Liked the scene where Yeo Reum thanks Soo Yeon for saving her in the past, no matter he remembers her or not.

Liked how this drama delves into the topic of disability. Liked how Soo Yeon’s emotional struggle was portrayed. His fear of drawing people’s attention and how he thinks that people can hurt him just by looking is well-portrayed (cant remember exactly). Liked the scene where Soo Yeon decides to tell Yeo Reum the truth about himself by meeting her on a wheelchair. That scene left a deep impression on me as he falls from his wheelchair down the steps while trying to get his phone (?) and had difficulty getting up, which nicely shows the struggles he faces due to the disability. However, they should have let Yeo Reum be with the disabled Soo Yeon at least for some time to show that Yeo Reum can accept his disability as a part of him.

Another highlight of this drama is the security team couple. Liked the development of relationship and chemistry between them. Liked how Dae Ki manages to find out many things about Young Joo which she tried to hide. Liked how Dae Ki says that he doesnt like puppy faces but likes cat faces. It is such an accurate description and it is so sweet haha. Liked both of the characters and their interactions with Soo Yeon and Yeo Reum.

Liked the friendship between Eun Sub and Yeo Reum. Liked Soo Yeon and Yeo Reum’s superior who stands up for them when needed and assures them that she is there to help them if they make mistakes. Could have had more depth in the relationship between her and the security superior.

My Amazing Boyfriend 2 quotes (China Drama)

(ep 37)

China Drama Review My Amazing Boyfriend 2

My Amazing Boyfriend 2 (2019)

Enjoyment: 8.5/10

starring Mike Angelo as Xue Ling Qiao, Yu Esther/Yu Shu Xin as Tian Jing Zhi, Chen Lu Yuan as Xue Chang An, Li Ge Yang as Yun Zhen, Tian Yi Tong as Ye Mei Xiao, Fingal Fu as Li Yan Zhi, Aro Yang as Feng Dong Dong / Feng Re Re, Yang Zhi Ying as Bai Lu, Miles Wei as Dr. Jiang/Jiang Yi Heng

Wasnt interested in starting this drama when it was screening. Then, my sister decided to watch it so we tried it together. We dropped it after a few episodes as my sister felt that Yu Shu Xin is trying too hard to imitate how the previous lead actress acted Tian Jing Zhi. She also found her too crazy haha.

After that, we somehow finished scanning through this drama separately. I finished watching this drama at around end May. My reason was I was too bored at that time haha. And this drama was kind of worth the time.  Felt that the characters are distinct and well-portrayed. This drama has enough of what makes a good drama with elements such as well-written characters throughout, romance, friendships, heartwarming scenes, sad scenes, and comedy scenes. However, the pace is too slow for me. From around 1/4-1/2 way, I keep thinking “Why is this drama so long?”. I skipped through the crime-related parts which mostly involve the character Yan Zhi from Season 1 but it is still too long. Anyway, felt sad for him.  Although Xue Ling Qiao saves him with his blood in season 1, he has to watch Xue Ling Qiao get together with Tian Jing Zhi and it doesnt seem like he will like someone else. I didnt really watch My Amazing Boyfriend Season 1, only sneak peeked into it.

Liked the interactions between Xue Ling Qiao (XLQ, Ling Qiao sounds funny haha) and Tian Jing Zhi (Jing Zhi). It is funny how Jing Zhi has sleeping disorder and can fall asleep anytime and anywhere. Enjoyed watching how XLQ cares for Jing Zhi. For eg, showing looks of concern, protecting her from harm, cooking big meals for her, researching information on pregnancy, carrying her home/to her bed when she falls asleep somewhere else. One of the scenes that left a deep impression on me is the scene where XLQ gets to know that Jing Zhi may be harmed and goes searching for her at night. After knowing that she went to Mei Xiao’s house, it is funny how he rang the doorbells of all the units in the block as Mei Xiao’s house happens to be at the highest (?) level and he didnt know haha. Liked the 3 (?) rules XLQ sets in their relationship, cant remember exactly what they are. Had fun watching them bicker and watching XLQ’s jealousy scenes. Laughed a lot at the treadmill scene where XLQ spoils the treadmill. Felt hungry when watching Jing Zhi eating a big meal and it is nice how XLQ sits there patiently or cooks for her. Felt that their relationship could have been better with a little more feelings of romance and tension.

Liked the acting by the cast! Especially liked Yu Shu Xin’s acting and Li Ge Yang’s acting. Felt that Yu Shu Xin acted well in both comedy scenes and sad scenes. Laughed a lot at the scenes at the start of the drama where Jing Zhi thought that XLQ is part of her dream and did many weird things. Liked the many different hats Jing Zhi wears haha. Unexpectedly cried at the scene where she tells her parents that XLQ’s lifetime is very long while her lifetime is very short while XLQ and Bai Lu are listening downstairs. My tears just flow out of my eyes without thinking. I was surprised and watched the scene a few times to check haha. One of the highlights of My Amazing Boyfriend 2 is Yun Zhen acted by Li Ge Yang. Liked how there is depth in the character. There are many different sides to the character, the happy-go-lucky side, immature side, mischievous and playful side, lonely side, determined side, loyal side. Liked how he likes to hang from chandelier haha. Felt that it was a strange but cool entrance when I saw it the first time. Felt sad for him when he sacrificed himself to save Bai Lu, and Jing Zhi and XLQ’s child. His last messages to all of them were touching and heartbreaking, especially the one to Mei Xiao. Felt heartwarming and a wave of happiness when he is revived towards the end (Sry for the spoiler). May become his fan after this drama.

XLQ and Jing Zhi’s child, Chang An, is cute! Chang An is another hightlight of the drama.  Liked how he can appear in Jing Zhi’s dreams before he was born, saying his thoughts in an indirect way and saving her life once. Those scenes left a deep impression on me as a mixture of feelings is evoked each time. It is funny how he is too mature for his age and it was fun watching his interactions with his parents. Liked how he is so smart.

Liked the development of relationship and the chemistry between Yun Zhen and Mei Xiao. Yun Zhen is a playboy but after he dates Mei Xiao, she clings onto him. Because of that, Yun Zhen avoids her, hides from her and escapes whenever he sees her or knows that she is coming. It is funny how Mei Xiao never fails to ask whoever that dates Yun Zhen “How much money do you want to leave Yun Zhen?”. Liked the background story between young Mei Xiao and Yun Zhen which Yun Zhen comes to realise towards the end of the drama. This adds depth to their relationship. Liked how Mei Xiao is smart and cool, even guessing that Yun Zhen is someone that cant die which is uncommon in dramas haha. Young Mei Xiao is so cute and smart haha! However, the relationship between them is a bit bland since Yun Zhen is an unwilling party in the relationship until their 3rd (?) contract date which includes the raining scene. Felt that their bickering is not enough.

Enjoyed the fantasy parts. For example, how XLQ and Yun Zhen can run very fast and jump very high, how they can heal themselves, and how Bai Lu has photographic memory. It is cool to watch XLQ and Yun Zhen’s fighting scenes, even though it is expected that Yun Zhen will lose to XLQ eventually haha. Enjoyed watching the interactions among Feng Dong Dong, XLQ and Yun Zhen as they later live together in XLQ’s house and also the interactions among them and Jing Zhi, Mei Xiao, Bai Lu. It is funny how Bai Lu is poor at small talks haha. Dr Jiang/Yi Heng looks good-looking haha. Felt sad about Yi Heng’s past. Too bad there is no good ending for him. Liked the osts of the drama and was impressed that Yu Shu Xin sang the happy catchy song for the drama.
