It is some time since there was a drama that I felt like chasing and/or had nice fantasy so was happy to get a hold of this drama. Enjoyed watching the demons use their supernatural power. Liked the interactions between the demon characters, Seon Mi/Sam Jang and Seon Mi’s secretary. The demon characters are often teasing and fighting with each other yet they are loyal to each other, and help each other in real times of need. Found some of the evil spirits quite frightening, especially the one in the doll and the creepy slow moving zombie. It is interesting how Dae Sik likes to do housework and cook haha, good for the other demons! Was interesting to see how Sung Hyuk acted as demons of different gender.
Liked Son Oh Gong the most among the demons (partially because Lee Seung Gi is my most favourite Korean actor haha)! When I started this drama, it reminded me a bit of Gu Family Book except it was more grim. Happy that I finally get to see Lee Seung Gi in another drama. Loved the character, Oh Gong, who is intelligent, mischievous and powerful. It is cool when Oh Gong uses his supernatural power in life and death situations like to kill evil spirits to save Seon Mi or for own purposes such as impersonating others, and keeping an eye on someone (using his cute soft toy monkey) or to make scenes more romantic. Liked the development of relationship and chemistry (more towards the end) between Oh Gong and Seon Mi. Despite how Seon Mi hates Oh Gong for not fulfilling his promise and leaving her helpless in the horrifying world again, she believes in him and waits for him. It was fun to watch how Oh Gong changes from being an annoying betrayer, a predator, a forced bodyguard to eventually a true protector and lover of Seon Mi. Liked how Lee Seung Gi said the same line to Seon Mi “You are beautiful, because I love you.” many times with different feelings. Cried at the last time I heard it. Liked Oh Yeon Seo’s acting in this drama and she portrayed Seon Mi’s unbreakable fighting spirit and kind heart well. It was interesting to see the different types of evil spirits they get rid of together and alone.
Had mixed feelings towards Ma Wang as a character. Didnt like how Ma Wang seems to betray others easily after using them for his own benefits (except once (?) when Oh Gong’s life is at risk) but liked how Ma Wang is hilarious and adds plot twists to the drama. Cha Seung Won has more facial expressions than I thought which made me laugh a lot, especially when he is shocked by something or suffers from something like a stroke. Liked the interaction between him and his secretary, Secretary Ma, who is a loyal dog demon which after many years can be transformed to look like human. It is funny that Secretary Ma never fails to ask Ma Wang if she should kill that person whenever a person makes Ma Wang angry. Enjoyed watching how the two are in such good rapport most of the time and how they depended on each other.
Felt that there was great development in the character, Pal Gye, who is immature and a bit annoying at the start but loses the people he is close to towards the end of the drama. Didnt like how he is selfish and tries to save Bu Ja by attempting to feed her with Seon Mi or when he works with Ma Wang and tries to lock Oh Gong in a picture by getting rid of the exit. However, I enjoyed watching how he treats Bu Ja well with those tender eyes haha. Although he is foolish and is cheated a few times when trying to “save” Bu Ja which made me a bit annoyed, I liked his persistence and felt a lingering sadness as I know that it would not be possible for Bu Ja to survive for long. Liked how Lee Hong Ki portrayed Pal Gye’s emotional struggle and despair. It was especially sad when he cannot do anything about their deaths which both happen right in front of him, and it was a little heartbreaking when he says that he is the only one left in the photograph.
Lee Se Young’s acting shines through in this drama as she acted as the kind and naive zombie Bu Ja, and the cunning and powerful evil spirit Ah Sa Nyeo who possesses the body later on. She managed to leave a deep impression for both of her completely different characters and I felt sad for both of them. Special mentions to One (acting as the young adult who is often seen glued to his phone or selling his grandmother’s store’s magical items secretly to make money) and Kim Sung Oh (Seon Mi’s right-hand employee who is chicken-hearted) for acting well. The drama started out well but I feel that the plot becomes more bland towards the end (dealing with one last evil spirit for many episodes, and Oh Gong and Seon Mi wanting to sacrifice their lives for each other), and its emphasis on tragedy is a bit too strong for my liking.
