Oh no! I have so much backlog. I still remember my friend saying that I would have to watch a lot of dramas (my part) and shows to sustain a drama and show review blog. But actually, I think I will always have a never-ending backlog as I usually jump into a few dramas before even writing about those I have finished watching and then I become too busy with other commitments to blog. It seems faster and easier to finish dramas than write reviews…
Watched this some time ago.

starring Xue Zhi Qian as Tao Xi 陶西, Danson Tang as Bai Zhou 白舟, Li Xiao Lu as An Mi 安谧, Wang Jun Kai (王俊凯) as Wu Tong 邬童, Wang Yuan (王源) as Ban Xiao Song 班小松, Yi Yang Qian Xi as Yin Ke 尹柯, Song Zu Er as Sha Wan 沙婉, Zhang Zi Feng as Li Zi 栗梓, 李小胖 as Jiao Er 焦耳, 李俊濠 as Lu Tong 陆通
My sister asked me to watch this drama with her as it includes her favourite TF Boys and one of my most favourite singers, Xue Zhi Qian. She told me about how Xue Zhi Qian may be the main lead instead of the TF Boys and then she somehow forgot about the drama until one day during the holidays when we have lack of dramas to watch.
Zoom into characters: Tao Xi is a lazy baseball coach due to past traumatic experience regarding baseball which leaves him hurt and with regrets. The school team which he is leading is doing poorly and the team members have lost their vigour and fighting spirit. Ban Xiao Song is an exception as he cheers his team on and plays the game to his best ability, even though he himself forgets the competition date. When the school decides to disband the baseball team due to low school budget and lack of results from this after-school activity, Tao Xi readily agrees. Ban Xiao Song’s dream is to fulfill his father’s dream of doing well in baseball after seeing his father being defeated at the baseball field. He works hard to form a new baseball team and persuade Tao Xi to establish the after-school activity again. Wu Tong who is an excellent pitcher from an opposing school team happens to transfer to Xiao Song’ school and Xiao Song grabs the chance to start his tough recruiting mission. Since Wu Tong’s parents “divorce” and he lost contact with his mother, the relationship between Wu Tong and his father deteriorated. He lives alone and is sometimes followed by his father’s secretary. Yin Ke lives a restricted life and his time is managed and planned by his mother. Because of his mother, he quits baseball and immerses himself in drawing instead whenever he gets some extra time. An Mi’s education is sponsored by Tao Xi’s father and she works for him. Tao Xi’s father instructs her to make Tao Xi resign from being a teacher+coach. At first, she is keen in doing so but as she gets to know Tao Xi better, she starts to think twice about it.
It is quite a good watch! Liked the plot of the drama and we were chasing after most of the episodes. The drama starts out well and it is funny how the whole baseball team is sleeping, including Tao Xi, the coach. Xiao Song even has to call Tao Xi by phone to wake him up. Tao Xi’s handphone ringtone sounds like a siren haha. There are many hilarious scenes throughout the drama such as Xiao Song, Wu Tong being scared (thinking a small child is a ghost) while the three of them were catching a prankster in the school at night, An Mi’s ridiculously poor cooking skills and disastrous dishes that make me laugh non-stop just watching (or when I think about it another day), An Mi’s drunk scene. The funny scenes are nicely intertwined with the heartwarming scenes as the drama goes. An example of a heartwarming scene is the boys running and pushing Jiao Er towards the finishing line and Jiao Er refusing to give up the long distance run when he fell in order to ensure the whole class get A for Physical Education and Tao Xi does not have to resign. The ending with the baseball game and the individual member’s personal thoughts and reflection was a bit exaggerated but it is quite impactful and touching that I could feel some tears in my eyes.
Wang Yuan’s character has the most depth among the three in this drama while Wang Junkai’s character has the most depth in Finding Soul (as the AI who thought he is human). Loved Yi Yangqianxi’s character in both dramas haha: the intelligent guy (different types of intelligent guy in both dramas). Wang Yuan acted well in this drama to portray the character’s different sides: the loved child, lazy school student, passionate baseball team leader+player. He portrayed the character’s struggle, mixed emotions, and happiness well. Admired Xiao Song’s persistence in forming the baseball team from scratch, continuously improving himself, and cheering everyone on during trainings. It is so nice to be in a happy, loving family that offers not only material support, but also emotional support. Enjoyed the development of a solid friendship, as well as the interactions, among Xiao Song, Wu Tong and Yin Ke who have very different personalities. Wu Tong is portrayed as the cold person yet Yin Ke who is friendly and helpful is actually a cold and firm person on the inside. Wang Junkai seems to be challenging a tougher role this time and I felt that he did it well except how he expressed the anger of the character.
Xue Zhi Qian, as usual, is humorous and the role fits him well haha. He is good at making scenes naturally funny. He looks good with or without spectacles haha but looks slightly better with spectacles… It is cool when he catches the baseball without looking or when he shows his baseball related skills. Liked how he portrayed his happy-go-lucky, nonchalant character but also including a sense of sadness and pain from within at times. Enjoyed watching the sweet interaction between Tao Xi and Guo Guo, Tao Xi’s friend’s daughter, throughout the drama. Liked how Tao Xi takes care of her like his own daughter. It was fun to watch how Tao Xi deals with the mischievous and energetic Guo Guo. There was one time that Xiao Song, Wu Tong and Yin Ke have to take care of Guo Guo and they had a hard time, except Yin Ke who brings her to an amusement park. Could feel tears in my eyes when Guo Guo had to leave Tao Xi. Liked the interaction between Tao Xi and his best friend, Bai Zhou, as they tease each other often and give each other support when needed. It is cool how Bai Zhou understands the students very well. Liked the development of relationship between An Mi and Tao Xi from next-door enemies to superior-subordinate to colleagues to friends. However, to me, the romance between Tao Xi and An Mi feels unreal, need a bit more spark and more chemistry. Didnt like the parts when Tao Xi falls for a childcare/kindergarten teacher (?).
It was interesting to learn more about baseball. Liked the interaction between the students of the school. Especially liked the characters Jiao Er (enthusiastic person when spreading school news) and Lu Tong (narcissistic person with a follower) which engaged me and add humour to the drama. Shipped Xiao Song with a student he often argues with haha. When Tao Xi is forced to become the form teacher of the class, I liked how he is like a role model to the students (most of the time haha), giving them motivation to do well, teaching them valuable things such as teamwork, and guiding/helping them when they need help. He is also observant and knows how to make good use of a student’s strengths, sometimes for his own benefits… Tao Xi’s father doesnt look like him or feel like his father haha which makes their relationship seem weird. It was a bit slow pace towards the end of the drama when the focus did not return to the baseball team for quite some time.
